  1. ptru, Not getting into an argument, so my involvement in this thread ends here. But if you know anything better about why we haven't got / won't have sustainable-powered cars and planes then please post it up. In the meantime, I stick with mine- and eaglewing's opines; that even if the technology existed for a car or plane that never needed refuelling, it would be so bloody expensive that few could afford it. Someone would want their money for the lost fuel revenue that a lifetime of petrol/gasoline currently generates. And red tape would tie it up so tight it'd never leave the ground anyway. And then you have the safety aspect. I'm perfectly sure a nuclear cell will one day be small enough to power a plane. But it'll be grounded permanently. Why? Nuclear powered car accident. Terrorist with a nuclear powered plane. That's why. While I may not respond, I'll gladly read your reply.

  3. I agree with eaglewing; there's a big difference between a hybrid (which is already overpriced for what it is) and a fully self-sufficient sustainable power source unit which, because it won't generate a regular (filling-up) income will be sold at a hugely overpriced amount - like the Prius analogy above. There's also the safety aspect. A fuel that "may" be reasonably safe to humans (when in its fuel tank / useage environment) is also a lot different to when it's been scattered across ten miles as the result of an aviation accident. I'm mindful of how red-tape led Europe is, but the US is no less bureaucratic. I'm constantly reminded of how many of (our) cars are still banned from use in the US because they have the wrong fenders (old Land Rovers eg). So, as for a sustainable fuel-sourced aircraft ever going to market, I doubt it'll ever happen. Too much revenue to lose, and too much red tape. But I like the idea. The great Manfred von Richthofen, in his 1917 autobiography, stated that one day he saw that we would strap an aircraft to ourselves like a pair of overalls. That day's coming. I just wish I was here to see it.

  5. In 2009 I had a Saitek Cyborg, and didn't need any nullzone. The setup I use today has zero nullzone. That's why I queried it, as it seemed odd and I thought would explain your plane banking as it pleases.
  6. Nullzone of 12%? That's quite a large area of deadness, in which the plane has control of itself.

  8. Thanks airfighter, however I'm done.
  9. Well, I downloaded Blender 2.49b yet again today. And xp2blender 3.09 (don't know where anyone got 3.10 from, I can only find 3.09). And Python 2.7. And then the usual fun started yet again. I just can't get those three programs to talk to each other. Thank you for whoever suggested Preferences in Blender. Couldn't find Preferences or anything similar in the Toolbar. So downloaded Sketchup Make and su2xp. What a difference. No Python, no head----k. However, it too is a Class 1 headache maker. I downloaded the original luggage files from the first post. And while it let me scale it to the right size, the two items of luggage had glaring texture holes, and Sketchip just would not let me texture in a texture, even from the damn texture file that came with the luggage. So I downloaded some new luggage from the 3D Workshop link in Sketchup. And it was CTD city. Save the file - crash to desktop. Export as xplane objects - crash to desktop. Breathe fast - crash to desktop. Kudos to those of you who can create anything with these abortions, but I..... give..... up. They just aren't worth the wasted life hours.
  10. does anyone know if sketchup is any better for importing objects to work on?

  15. Now uploaded and waiting for Cameron's approval. Nothing needed to be changed - the rotors are the correct colours - but the full version includes the correct interior and glass, so you may want to download when it's available in the Download Manager.

  17. Thanks Carlos. Looks okay. I'll finish up the file (change blades for example) and upload, now that it seems to load okay on other people's systems.
  18. Thanks sixgun, at least that tells me my initial issue with this livery was down to my computer. As soon as I put the gold edging (from around the edge of "Rescue") on the black body the red of "Rescue" went all blotchy. I could never figure out why, as I've run much more demanding liveries on my pc with no trouble. I just put it down to a conflict between having red, gold and black as being a big no-no. Would be interesting to actually see what this window issue is you're seeing in PM in xp10.
  19. Anyone of the 4 downloaders it feel like letting me know if it's displaying correctly?

  21. Um, take it to another thread, guys? At least that way those of us who want to see what others flew today aren't hijacked into reading something else.
  22. What I meant was - For Blender you need Blender & a.n.other (ie xplane2blender) For Sketchup you still need Blender & a.n.other (ie su2xp) One day I hope there'll be a Blender or Sketchup that does away with the need for either of the add-ons. It's the add-ons that gave me the headache. I didn't get as far as getting a Blender headache.
  23. Thanks Tom and Liser. Liser, I had Blender 2.49b and xplane2Blender 3.09. I got a box up that said there was no Python installed, and stating it was compiled with python 2.5.2.. but I couldn't find a 2.5.2 anywhere - there's a 2.4 and a 2.6, so wasn't sure where to go from there. I may try 2.7 see if that gets me any further. Tom I can't believe in 15+ yrs of xplane, we're still having to create stuff using software that's the equivalent of Chinese Whispers. Having 3 different programs with little to no installation documentation, and installation ends up being pure guesswork based on the hope that all three programs are of compatible versions to talk to each other is what I class as unnecessarily complicated. If one really wanted to make something extremely difficult for someone to do something, yeah, I'd probably do all of the above. So, it's great you're thinking of doing some training.
  24. I gave up on this months ago as it wouldn't display right in xplane, even though it was fine in Planemaker. Maybe someone could try it on their system and let me know if it looks okay. ZK-HUP OTAGO.zip
  25. Thanks Guy. I just found that trying to even get Blender, XP2Blender and Python all working together just killed off all the enthusiasm right out of me. In the space of one evening, I went from wanting to modify something, then to creating my own instead, to "I just can't be bothered, sod it." Great success story. It's no wonder we have so many empty airports, if that's what happens to others.
