I wonder, why would you wanna use DDS ?
-
Thank you. Here's another one. I've made a mockup of a few barracks. They need some height adjustment, UVs and baked textures. I've also made two more buildings further away from the hangars, and two additional, curved structures. You can see them all in the screenshot. Next, I'll probably make the tower. I'm really enjoying flying helicopters around the airport now. Can't wait for it to be populated with textured buildings!
-
And here's the model from two sides at once. This is not a render. This is the model I currently have in X-Plane with the pre-rendered textures! I lack to tweak a few textures in the office part as you can see, but I'm getting there very soon. I noticed now that my X-Plane model lack the new details I added. A few lamps above the big doors in front of the hangar. Will add them the next time I bake textures. Will also need to add windows to the office part.

Got my hands on some photos that's really helpful. Totally remodeled and textured the AWACS hangar. Oh! And I added some lamps for the roads connecting the facilities.

Couldn't resist taking it a step further. Can't wait for those "helicopter" shots to fill in an become populated with all kinds of buildings, antennas and what not.. ;D The video is available in HD. If not at the moment, it might still be processing.

Thank you! Added more markings to the taxiways. Getting more comfortable with WED now. I almost love it. There's still a lot to be added. Especially in the middle.

I can't help myself. I needed some fresh air. Started another scenery. Something to do in between the different projects, work, social life.. and the list goes on.. This is ENOL Ørlandet. It's one of the few air force stations in Norway. I did the hangar early today, and deleted the old test I did of ENOL a few weeks ago, and started with blank sheets today. The taxiways took a while as you can imagine. I just started playing with light fixtures, edge lines and center lines. And I'm amazed by how far off the guys at Laminar has managed to make the heading of the default scenery. Makes sense why landing with auto pilot never worked out properly and put me down on the taxiway. Well, here goes.. My days work.. Photo first, comment below. The hangar I modeled and textured today. Mostly as a test to a new technique. Needs some fixes on the scale. It's too narrow and too low at the moment. A WIP from WEd earlier today. Birds eye view of what I got so far. Notice how strange the ground textures look when Laminar makes the heading wrong.... A different angle.

United Airlines pilot's coffee spill forces emergency landing
OlaHaldor replied to RealScenery's topic in General Discussion
My guess is that they need a new patch from Microsoft, or wait until Microsoft Flight is ready... From joke to revolver.. All went well, but think of the costs that one pilot has caused. He must have a hard time now I guess. -
I just read a thread on the forum whose-name-we-don't-mention about the new clouds system in XP10. At first I was thrilled to see news on this, and I was impressed. It resembles the idea of "procedural textures" as I know from 3D modeling and texturing. Scrolling through something that would look like the Bible, I found a few screenshots. Is it just me or did it look like... nothing ? Can't say I was impressed at all by the looks of it. I just hope I can use the cloud textures I bought from the XA shop! Have you seen the images? What do you think?

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for here. Where is this "Generate objects.." feature?
-
I don't mind. Consider this: High quality 3rd party planes (and scenery) with more details and function than seen earlier and maybe release one or two planes every 6 months vs. a less than OK flight model, lack of essential features, a model and texture that looks like garbage, but they're able to spit out those kind of planes in a matter of days or weeks. If you've followed the projects Javier and Leading Edge are doing, you can see things take time. I have two projects too - scenery for an international airport and a small airfield, both in Spain. I've been working on the scenery for more than a year. "WHY?" you might ask. Because I want to make something that's not been seen before. Something that will make you go "wow" every time you land and taxi to the hangar or the jetway. But also because I have a job that needs attention in order to pay the bills, get new software to continue developing the scenery. Who knows? It might take another 6 months or it may be released before easter. I quote the toy repair guy in Toy Story 2. "You can't rush art".

Nothing plane related. More work and research related on my behalf. I'm about to find out what control surface to buy for my color grading business. So I spent 1h20m today and built the control surface seen to the right. I had the table and the keyboard from an earlier comparison with another control surface. Looks like I need to get myself a new table and re-arrange the office - or get a new office with all new furniture.. *sigh* I can hear the money roll....

I on the other hand have been cruising in the original Forza since day one, and bought the XBOX 360 just for Forza 2 and now 3.. Unfortunately my XBOX 360 died this spring, so I haven't had the chance to drive for a long time. This summer I bought a PS3 to see what's going on in this part of the gaming world, and not least, to get a blu-ray player with more possibilities than just view movies. Along with the PS3 I bought the GT5 "demo". I wasn't really impressed. How's that one compared to the full game? One of the biggest downsides to me was no damage and there's hardly any upgrades except "buy a new car". And I quickly got stuck between races because I didn't have enough money to buy a new car to drive new races, and I couldn't sell the only car I had in the garage.. I played it for a week, and have never touched it again.

First off - I'm heavily biased! I might be offending some skilled modelers now - but I think you get what you pay for, to a certain degree of course. Blender is free. It has great tools - if you can get your head around them. This fits all apps for that matter, but I find it particularly hard to even test Blender.. I chose LightWave 3D as my tool of choice, and I have not regret that investment a second. And when I go into Blender the few times I need to convert from LightWave to X-Plane, I'm struggling so much, even if I have a guide in front of me. But then again, it may be my good or bad habits, along with a totally different interface and how things are done to get the desired result. I wouldn't go the Max or Maya route. That's a lot of money to throw on a 3D app for X-Plane development unless you're really dedicated to get back whatever you spend on it. All apps can do the same, but it's the way it's done that makes you either feel good or bad about the workflow. For me it was an interface free of icons that made this good feeling get to me. LightWave is bound to stay in my fingertips for years to come. As for rendering, I can recommend LightWave. They've won several prizes for it, and it's been said it's one of the fastest and best render engines which is part of an all-round 3D app. As for pricing, it does cost a little. And it will be slightly more expensive after their new version, LightWave 3D 10 ships.

Wow! Details!!
-
Good! But I'm not sure about the rounded edges. It's not really necessary. Adds more polygons, and won't do much good except giving the GPU more to chew on. Like the detail with one of those whatever-it-is leaning onto the wall, to the right there.

I had it on the iPhone first. Then my girlfriend found it and ever since my phone has been missing any time of the day. So I bought it on the PS3 too so we could play together. And now I can play on the PC and Mac anytime. Fullscreen. HD. Yum! ;D

Look no further! Flightcontrol HD for Mac and PC is here! I just saw it was released on Steam! Woooh what a great day! ;D Get it here for €3,99! This might not be a sim, but it's an excellent way to throw away countless hours of navigating planes to safe landings.. The game comes with 9 maps and challenges your skills as a hobby ATC with different planes which you will guide to different runways or heliports depending on their kind.

Goran, you are spoiling us.
-
Thank you, Jack. I've got a new batch of "really busy at work", so development is standing still at the moment. I'm almost tired of having to get back to this project all the time now. Hehe.. I just wanna get done with it
-
In the end I did a complete re-install. God only knows what I had messed up before I did so. It works now, even though a bit stuttering when I'm close to the helicopters or planes.
-
Thank you!! I'm thinking of doing the parking areas as a custom texture too.. Will give a much more authentic feel to it.
-
Hehe, true. I've assigned a button for "3D Cockit mouse look" instead of just "3D cockpit". It's a blast having the freedom of moving around like this. Even though it's not TrackIR, it really helps a lot on the "realism" in that matter. Video will be coming.

...and bought myself a Logitech G13. It will suit my needs at the office. Programmable, backlit buttons. Three "pages" of them too which all can be assigned different backlit colors for easy identification of what button set is currently loaded in the current profile. Excellent for 3D, compositing and color grading, which is some of what I do on a daily basis. And I took the baby home to test it with X-Plane. To my surprise, I cannot use the mouse to control the plane any more - I have to use the little "joystick". With my left thumb.. *sigh* It's hard to get into, but I had a nice circuit around LEMU now with a smooth landing. Getting better at it! But I've assigned loads of buttons which is reachable from anywhere, and I've only filled page one - two more pages to go, which I can fill with stuff like bringing up a GPS and using the keys to navigate it, autopilot, lights, gear, flaps, view options, you name it. The reason for selling my yoke, throttle, pedals and switch panel? I simply don't have time to use it as much as I'd like. At least not now. And boys gotta have new toys!
