What would you expect from payware scenery?
OlaHaldor replied to OlaHaldor's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for your input. It's very valuable to me. Capnsully, I'll check them out. So, let's say I cover all airports and helipads on Oahu which is made to fit the photo scenery that recently was released... ? Would that be something you would be interested in? -
Some of you already know, I love modeling for X-Plane scenery. As of today, I have one airport that may be released at any time, and three in the making. And I'm sure there will be many more to come. However, I have yet to publish any of my scenery I've started and done some work on. - Why? Because I'm not happy with it. Sure, "it looks better than nothing", but is it really good enough? I'm not gonna say what I'm not happy about, I'd rather know a little more what you as possible buyers would prefer from a payware scenery. What makes it worth the money? What would you expect when you first load the airport? Let me know, whatever it is. And feel free to either discuss, request, or simply ask questions directly to me. I need to know what others think before I can make a leap and release anything.

At first I thought it looked interesting, but then.. Not really. Does anyone know more about it, or have perhaps you have first hand experience with it? If it could do somewhat the same as FSPAX could do in MSFS9, that would be fun.. I mean. Loading pax, departing on schedule, make sure they all are comfortable during flight, and make a smooth landing for both safety and comfort of the pax. You would know if they didn't enjoy the ride. I liked that. That was fun. But getting into all the economics on top of that would be too much for me. I just enjoy flying and don't bother about all the other stuff. All though, I enjoy tycoon games and such, but it's completely different when I'm the pilot.

Thought I'd share this video of a Widerøe Dash 7 on a show.. I'm blown away..

I have a question for you. I've noticed a few of the helipads are just floating mid-air. Why is that? Aren't they on ground level IRL? Someone should make buildings for them so it's easier to spot. I went from an airport (in the background) to this heliport at a ranch. I almost crashed the helicopter into the side of the thing because I thought I'd be landing on the ground.
-
Damn you guys. You made me purchase my first helicopter.. So I took it to the scenery with the best looking helipads I know of. ;D

Nice images! What plane is that last one?
-
I have absolutely no idea. I guess I'll be using some generic concrete and window textures. It's not really that much difference between all the buildings.

Here's another two for ya. I didn't have much time today as I'm off for a wedding I'm shooting at this saturday, though I spent too much time on figuring out those roads and connecting them, and a few more structures. And here you can check the airport in birds view on Bing. Some details won't be needed to model, nor be 100% accurate, since you'll be flying above or parking on the opposite side of the terminal anyway. But please, be picky if you notice anything.

Thank you guys. Samen, I didn't know which folder to put it into, since the Hawaiian livery was the only one without any notice about it. I'll fix this asap!

Can't sleep, so I started playing with night lighting. I have a few more ideas on how to do night lighting on any surface, like in front of buildings. I've tested a little, and it looks very promising. Will show you more when I'm happy with it

I bought the Oahu photo scenery as a treat to myself. I needed something new, so what's better than a little "don't be sad" kind of purchase to play with all day long? I got carried away, and have been more active in LightWave than X-Plane though. Started making some rough ideas on how the buildings will populate Honolulu intl. This is VERY rough. I shouldn't even post this, but I'm weak...
-
FlorianR, Fixed. Though this is just for play. Getting the buildings to pop out really makes a lot of difference. Just wish there were more and better photo reference for such. Mind you, the light conditions play a big part on how it looks too.

I'm dropping all projects - I wanna make airports for Oahu. Haha.. I had a very nice 25 minute flight from the east coast to the airport in the very middle of the island (PHHI) - this is a GREAT scenery. I love it. Forget Norway, forget Spain, I'm all about Oahu.

I woke up today, looking forward to a day full of color grading and joy. Played a few tunes on the stereo while I started up the software, switched on the lights and video monitors. I logged on Echofon, the twitter client. And what do I see? Loads of tweets about Japan, but so cryptic I had to go to one of the major newspapers website to see what's going on. It struck me with video after video with destruction. It simply makes me depressed, and really killed the mood. My thoughts goes to anyone directly or indirectly hit by the tsunami and earthquake. I feel terrible about feeling helpless. And I can't let go of the thought, "what would I do if I were there?"

Just a collection of all the models I've completed for my ENOL scenery so far. Note that the models are complete. Textures are not. Need to add windows and doors to the buildings.

Here's the tower, and three fresh screenshots of day, dusk and dawn. As you can see, I lack to add a lot of edge lights, but they're slowly day by day. Notice all those bright lights. Those are the light posts scattered all over the scenery. I need to investigate the photo reference and possibly add more of them. I still have around 40-50 individual structures to model and place all over the scenery. It will look busy and crowded when it's done!
-
No progress for over a week. But new from these photos.. I've modeled the tower, and it looks nice. It has a LOT of details, so I'll probably have to turn it down a few steps. The details are basically two ladders, a set of stairs and railings on two levels. Whew! I've also come a long way understanding lights in X-Plane. So all the street lamps now have the glowing white orb of light positioned correctly. So when the night comes, all the street lamps switch on. I'll do the same for antennas and other lamps on different hangars and buildings. Let me say this - landing at night is sexy! Will post a new video when I have fixed more structures, adjusted center line and edge markings and lights.

Looking for good looking military aircraft for XP
OlaHaldor replied to OlaHaldor's topic in General Discussion
I don't think I made myself clear. I'm looking for planes and helicopters that can be flown. Static models are not interesting at this moment. -
I'm looking for visually good looking AWACS, Hercules C-130, F-16 and SeaKing. All of these are stationed on the air force base I'm modeling and building for X-Plane at the moment. I'd like to know if there's some good payware planes of any of the mentioned. I won't use freeware unless they're very, very good...

I dunno.. I've always used PNG.
