    Well... the new card arrived. And it is to my pleasure that I can say that my desktop is fully functional again! Thanks to everyone who gave advice, I'm off to re-install X-Plane and all my addons...

    Gotcha. Unfortunately the computer is passed the mark of warranty from HP. But yeah it's definitely a good idea to get the extended warranty when this kind of stuff happens.
