Hi When selecting altitudes, the "thousands" digit is a bit larger than the remaing ones, and is slightly misaligned. This is more obvious with the "1" digit, and it fooled me for a bit when looking at the panel from further back, when it pretty much disappeared due to a "1" not being a bigger shape!

PC-12 Amps Value 0 How to turn on alternator
diamonddriller replied to foxtrot's topic in General Discussion
@foxtrotYou are asking in the wrong forum. X-Aviation do not sell this PC-12! -
Thanks Ben. I sort of wondered whether that would be the explanation! As I get older, it's more unusual to be a "newbie" in anything
-
Apparently, I joined in early 2014, and have around 160 posts, an excellent reputation and 3 badges. However, I am classified as a "Newbie" (1/14 of the ranks) still..........? Hardly a serious matter, but what on earth would I need to do to progress? Just noticed I got another badge for starting a conversation (this one). I must have initiated several others over the years.

Great news! Thanks Goran.

Looks fantastic. Should it be OK on an Intel iMac with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB card, or will it fry the Mac ?
-
You are going to be struggling a bit with a 4GB video card in a Macbook. I managed in XP10 with a 4GB card in an iMac, but found it was not great in XP11 - although it was still in OpenGL then. XP11 ran very hot, and I guess your MacBook CPU (and GPU) will be running hot, and the fans will be blowing away! With your airliners, you are spending most of your time up in the flight levels (probably around 30,000' or so), whereas a lot of your time in the TBM will be lower, where scenery will have much more of an impact. You may well be getting thermal throttling. Have you looked at the core temperatures?

Take Command: SR22 Entegra Series v1.0.1 Update Released!
diamonddriller replied to Cameron's topic in Entegra SR22 Series
Wow! Although not mentioned, the flickering of the GNS430s is gone, and one or both now pop out or back flawlessly, which I found a problem before. Also, on my iMac, it doesn't seem to be hammering my CPU like before. The core temperatures seem to be lower. Wonderful. I hope Coop and co. can do these fixes to the SR20 Entegras too. Thanks a million! -
Flickering GNS430s on the Avidyne Entegras
diamonddriller replied to diamonddriller's topic in Entegra SR22 Series
I don't think I have another developer's plane doing this. I don't remember seeing it before. It doesn't happen with your Mooneys or the Islander either. Anyway, I have the 2020 iMac with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT 16 GB. Sent log.txt by PM. Then, again, to your own support system! -
Hi. Not to repeat myself, but see the post in the SR22 section. Thanks. New iMac on Catalina.
-
On an iMac. When I pop out either GPS to 2D, the two screens in the console 430s start flickering or flashing - sometimes a lot, sometimes occasionally. The Avidyne screens are fine, and nothing else in the cockpit is wrong. It happens in all four variations of the SR22 and both of the SR20s I also get the occasional CTD when opening any of the Cirruses from another plane, but not when starting from fresh - but that happened also on the G1000 versions.

Gizmo installation when purchasing or updating
diamonddriller replied to diamonddriller's topic in General Discussion
All the best. Loving the new Cirruses! -
Hi Every time I buy or update any of X-Aviation products, Gizmo is downloaded, extracted and installed. Now, if it's a newer version than the one currently installed, then it's worth doing. However, if it is just deleting/overwriting an existing up-to-date version, this is a waste of bandwidth, and adds to hard drive wear and tear. In these days of SSD storage, however, there is the additional concern of the lifetime of the drive. It is said that they can accept between 3,000 to 10,000 writes to the same address, although algorithms spread out where stuff gets written to. My iMac is all solid state. Apple storage is expensive, and not easy to replace, without a tear down Surely, it is not too difficult to check whether Gizmo is already installed, and if it is and is the latest version, just skip it. If either condition is not met, then install as required. In the last few days, I have re-installed Gizmo four times....... You all may well laugh at me, as being a stupid old f--t, but thinking of these things keeps the brain going during these crazy times......... A bit tongue in cheek, but not totally pointless. Stay safe.

My suspicion would be that, as this is a very old product - originally written for X-Plane 9, I think - the installer is still 32-bit, which Big Sur won't run, even on an Intel Mac. Rosetta 2 just won't deal with it on the M1. As the sales of this are probably very small, maybe Cameron forgot (or didn't bother) to redo the installer in 64 bit. Of course, that's just a guess, and there may be another reason altogether!

BN-2B Islander G5 V1.2 - G5 displays blank
diamonddriller replied to StuartC's topic in BN-2B Piston Islander
Just to confirm, Coop: It doesn't display them on my Mac either. The plugin and g5.cfg files are identical to the last version, where it all worked perfectly. -
Managed to do it myself

Hi THis works OK, but I'd like to do the 1.20 upgrade, so I can pop out the panels on the menu. Any chance of a new g5.cfg for me please? BTW, I notice that my Sundowner G5 was not working properly, but saw that you had already offered a new g5.cfg file for that, and it worked perfectly.

No G5 options in X-Plane plugin menu

That did it! Well done. Your earlier instruction to put it into the G5 folder was the hang-up. Funnily enough, I thought I'd tried putting the .cfg file into the root directory, and on reflection I had - but it was the earlier version, not your new and improved one Nice of you to take the time to indulge this old f--t! Take care. -

Hi Coop. No, it didn't work. I know you have better things to do with your time, so I'm not stresed with this at all. It's keeping me amused for a few minutes, while we are still locked down! I still get the dark screens, and can only start up the G5s from a popup. You can see what the file structure looks like. I just duplicated the G5 plane and called it G5 1.2, and experimented in that. Or could that be the problem? I deleted the settings directory, which had the old cfg file. What is interesting to me is that, somehow, a new (slightly smaller) g5.cfg file gets created in the plane's root directory, and I'm attaching it here. g5.cfg -
Introducing the Take Command! SR20 and SR22 Entegra Editions
diamonddriller replied to Coop's topic in General Discussion
Looking forward to these. I occasionally, RW, flew an Avidyne PA28 (they had them for a while), and they are a lot easier to use than a G1000. Watching some YouTubers with Avidyne GPS nav/coms, their logic is so impressive. I'm a little surprised that they didn't make a heavier dent in Garmin's almost overwhelming adoption in the larger manufacturers' planes. We Mac users can't avail ourselves of the Reality XP Garmins. I wish Aerobask would separately license their version of the GTN 750, which is pretty good...... So, it's LR's Garmins for us - which is not the end of the world, as the earlier Cirruses were so equipped anyway. True to life :-) BTW, Coop, you may not have seen that I added a note to the G5 "update" for the Mooneys forum thread. It was not fully successful. -
No G5 options in X-Plane plugin menu

Never assume anything is a piece of cake I substituted the plugin for the newer version, and resited the .cfg file to the base directory. Loaded up - and "Yippee" - had the menu in the X-Plane plugins menu - and it worked! The G5 screens all sat where they should. Looked promising! However, the G5 screens were blank (as if they were off - the "glass" looked normal). Undeterred, I had a look at the popups and they were off, too. So, I turned them on, and they both fired up. Whether the HSI was properly slaved to the GPS, I can't remember but, unfortunately, the panel G5s remained blank, no matter how I tried to fiddle with the switches on them. I moved the .cfg file around, renamed it to g5.cfg, and back again to no avail. I think I tried all combinations, but gave up after a while. Re-installing the PB5 got rid of the menu, of course, but somehow made the G5s power up inside the GNS530 screen! Very odd. There they were with the AI and HSI side by side...... It was getting very late, so I gave up. Today, rather than re-installing (which lets Cameron's uninstaller work), I just totally deleted both the "M20 Collection" and the "G5 Aircraft Installer" directories, and replaced them from Apple's great Time Machine, so things were back to where they were before I started playing. It all works again. So, obviously, there is an alteration to be made, somewhere in a file, to let the panel G5s fire up in the M20. If it's a simple edit, I'm happy to try. For me, it gives me something else to do on a Saturday -

Thanks Coop. I must admit, I'd thought about doing that, but held off until you or Cameron suggested it (just in case it might mess things up). Thank you both for the service. Of course, I would have always had the recourse of just installing again from the PB5 installer. Have a great weekend - well, as much as you can in these crazy times.......
