Because they don't. Same reason some of your local stores don't sell products other stores do.

X-Aviation distributes JRollon planes. They are not one and the same.
-
So can't it be written into the plugin?
-
Doesn't the assignment get saved in the preferences?
-
I don't think Laminar has ever offered anything like this. I've only been around since V8, but I didn't see any kind of special offer when V9 or V10 came out. Each version has been treated as a "new" product and not an upgrade.

Serious question: if you already have it on DVD, what would be the point or benefit of playing it on Steam?

Can not open xplane 10 once again after reinstalling everything
ointment replied to Maxthrust74's topic in Help!?!
Not on a Mac. Besides, you should not install from Disc 1. You should be using the installer that you download from here: http://www.x-plane.com/downloads/x-plane_10_installer-updater/ When asked to insert your Disc 1, do so and continue with the rest of the discs as they are called for. Not sure why you're getting a "do you want to install a second version" message. -
Can not open xplane 10 once again after reinstalling everything
ointment replied to Maxthrust74's topic in Help!?!
How did you try "uninstalling" X-Plane? All you have to do to uninstall on a Mac is drag the entire X-Plane folder to the trash and then empty the trash and it's gone. -
Can't really help you much without your log.txt. Please post your log.txt so we can see what's going on with your X-Plane installation rather than just taking stabs in the dark.

I've been flying on a MacBook Pro for years. Even now I am flying on a 9 month old MacBook Pro Retina, OSX 10.8.5, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, 1024MB VRAM and respectable rendering options and frame rates in the 80's with freeware aircraft and 30's in Carenado and FlyJSim payware. No, I don't fly with insanely high settings, but it's all I need to keep me happy. To combat the heat, I use a Moshi Zefyr 2 fan and I also run the smcFanControl app to keep my internal fan running faster when things get hotter. Still, I would agree the new iMac would be a much better choice!

If you still have your V9.7 installation on a hard drive, you could just copy all your V9 custom scenery over to your V10 Custom Scenery folder. Even though they may not look exactly as you recall in V9.7, they are still compatible…for the most part. Make sure you copy over any object libraries you may have had, too.

Keep in mind X-Plane's weather runs about an hour behind real weather.
-
Make sure you're downloading real weather from the internet. Go to Environment>Weather and make sure you've selected the "grab real weather from the net" button. It's been raining for several days here and you can see the the precip on both the Local Map and the weather window.

Another great resource is www.http://stoenworks.com. He's got both real world tips and flight simulator info.

Go to YouTube and search for X-Plane Tutorials and you will find all kinds of videos to help you.

Excuse me, Hobofat. I certainly didn't mean for it to sound "holier than thou." I am privy to a lot more information concerning this whole situation and Archie will understand my post more than anyone else here. His decision was made and based more on his conversation with Dan than it was on the posts in this thread. I should have PM'd my comment rather than posting it publicly, but I sincerely hope the community does learn from this thread that it is not okay to deprive developers of their compensation for the work they do by reselling or redistributing their work.
-
Hopefully this thread can serve to educate others who might contemplate any form of piracy, redistribution or theft of intellectual property. It appears Archie has come to understand the X-Plane community is a lot smaller and tighter than he may have realized. If you don't want to get kicked out of the pool, it's best not to pee in it.
-
Wow. Guess that pretty much sums it up.

You, pal, are the reason X-Aviation products have such strong DRM built into their products. I assure you Carenado will soon be using DRM to protect their products from people like you, too. You have no ethics. We can continue to debate the legalities, but the fact remains that you choose to ignore the unethical nature of reselling something that the author and distributor have told you not to redistribute. Whether your feet are on this continent or not doesn't mean you can disrespect or disregard the laws under which you made the purchase. If you can sleep with yourself at night, then you go right ahead and join the ranks of software pirates.
-
You are still wrong. You buy and you OWN an iPod. You buy and OWN a car. You buy and OWN your computer. But you do NOT own your software. You are granted a license to use the software under the agreements you made when you purchased the software. If it were worth the time to prosecute you for copyright infringement, I'm certain the developers would pursue that course. Unfortunately, you are small potatoes and they could only recover the amount of the loss, which in this case is less than $60. That's why people like you get away with redistributing software. By redistributing software, you are depriving the developer of the profits he could have made by selling to the purchaser you have taken from him. I don't think Philip or Roman are too keen about that proposition. Then again, it's only sixty bucks! They won't miss that sixty bucks, will they? Your disregard for the law is disheartening. You bought a US product from a US supplier and you agreed to abide by the conditions of sale. The distributor of the product has told you it is against the conditions of sale to redistribute the product, yet you continue to solicit the "community" to see what they think to try to get people to agree with you. You try to apply your laws to facilitate your desire to get your money back for a product that you have stated yourself has been useful to you. Nonetheless, you are bound by the laws under which the purchase was made, no matter where you live. If you are honest in your heart, you will agree.
-
I'm sure you're right. Half an hour of instruction? Maybe 15 minutes. In his heart he knows he's wrong. That's why he asked in the first place and continues to twist things until they look right in his head. But you're right. He disregards those who don't agree with his logic and he will do what he wants.
-
You have totally missed the points that have been made. You are wrong, but you keep twisting and turning to justify your actions. I'm afraid no matter what anyone says, you will disregard the law and do whatever you please. Just because someone else is doing it does not make it legal. Banks are robbed every day, but that doesn't make it okay for you to go rob a bank. You have been told by several people in this thread that you are breaking US law by reselling your software. End of story. Whether it is Nicolas from the org or Cameron from X-Aviation or the developer of the software, if they do not give you permission to resell the software, you are breaking the law. As for the Carenado purchase you just made, you, along with the individual who sold it, have violated copyright law. Here's what the copyright states: "All the material contained in this pack is exclusive copyright of Carenado and no part of any of the models contained in this package, or any other files within, in part or in whole, may be copied, re-distributed, disassembled, re-packaged or in any way be exploited for any commercial purpose without the express permission of Carenado." Your logic is flawed. You have purchased a US product online. By doing so, you have agreed to abide my the copyrights under which the product was produced and provided. Just because you live in a different country does not mean you are free to disregard copyright law. As for your org account, Nicolas has already supplied you with the product so how can you think he could deprive you of the product which you already have in your possession? He would not be breaking any law by refusing to do business with you. In fact, I wouldn't blame him at all for doing so. If you think he doesn't know who you are or what your e-mail addresses and IP address are, you are certainly mistaken.
-
You place the OpenSceneryX folder inside your Custom Scenery folder. That's all you do with it. As you download other custom scenery files, you place those folders inside your Custom Scenery folder. If those custom sceneries use OpenSceneryX objects then they will find those objects and your scenery will be properly displayed.

Peter Hager A380 Lamg Lights and Taxi Lights
ointment replied to Darius Alexander's topic in General Discussion
And you think you are gaining respect for the way you are acting here? You've been around X-Plane long enough to know developers have no control over Laminar created bugs in the beta process. Any developer you contact about a beta bug is going to tell you the same thing. Don't report bugs to them or "bother" them to fix things they have no control over. If your product was working fine before the beta update, then it's not the developer's problem and it will be dealt with by Laminar, as you've already experienced. You have no idea what kind of day Peter was having and maybe your e-mail was the last in a series of events that pushed him over the edge. From the sounds of it, I think you're overreacting. I've had many communications with Peter over the years and as has been mentioned, I have never known him to be rude, discourteous or mean. I wager it's a matter of poor translation and he evidently chose the wrong words. Relax! -
I've flown X-Plane from an external drive for years and have never had any problems. I currently fly on a MacBook Pro Retina with a LaCie 500gb 7200rpm hard drive and I don't see any performance issues at all. No stutters. No slow loads. However, I do think an external SSD is a better way to go.
