flyinjake
Hello Falcon, I consider myself new to XP also but I have a couple ideas to consider. I believe the XP10 manual states the orbit textures do not take effect until 100,000 ft ? If you havent, you may want to read the rendering options section as it has some good points to remember. When making changes to your rendering options. Some items require a complete restart of XP for the changes to take effect. Also, I have seen where a person was making changes to the rendering options but then would select the button on the bottom right that resets all rendering options to lower settings so the sim runs faster. They were selecting it out of habit and did not realize that all you should do is select the "X" at the top of the box or hit enter. I am assuming you have a computer that will run XP on higher settings. Jake

mtaxp
It's still a 32BIT "effect" (They did that to save memory).XP10 loads 6 DSF's simultaneously which as you can see is not enough to prevent this blur...however I guess (acording to some post that Ben wrote in his blog) in 10.30the number of the loaded DSF's together should be raised so that "issue" should not be exist anymore. WarpeD
Confirmed for 10.30, but one will need a 64 bit machine and sufficient memory to get the real benefit of the additional DSF's. Ben's blog also suggests that the resolution of the whole earth model will eventually be increased too. This probably won't be Terragen or Outerra, but it will be wonderfully better than what we deal with above about 15k at present.
skiflyzander
Not trying to say one sim is better than the other here... just to be clear. But why is FSX able to render good looking textures as far as the eye can see? FSX is only 32 bit... I'm just curious.
WarpeD
That's a completely fair question. I can't speak directly to the technical details, but clearly there's more than one way to skin a cat. (Apologies to cat persons... ) The technologies that Ben Supnik chose for X-Plane 10 likely places priorities for scenery rendering differently from what the FSX team chose. Perhaps the advantages he and Austin were seeking will become more apparent later in the X-Plane 10 run. Version 10.30 is still pretty young for the latest X-Plane installment.
