bruced39 Posted December 6, 2013 Author Report Posted December 6, 2013 Yea Cameron, The freezing as you know is still real bad. Not sure what you can do but, I will wait until a fix is found. It made flying difficult when under ATC and they kept thinking I was disconnected., Please let me know when you have a solution to this problem. Otherwise great product. Dave Quote
Cameron Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 Hey, guys, One more thing to add on top of all of this... I realize that everyone seems to have really fantastic FPS in version 1.1, and as such it's really, really easy to keep the settings at a very high setting with little to no impact. That said, in real weather conditions this may actually be contributing to this problem even more for you! This length of this pause will also depend on how many cloud puffs need to be generated to fulfill the conditions specified. So, if you've cranked up your draw distance and detail settings, set "overcast" to the max quality, and an overcast layer pops in - that's an insane amount of puffs, and it will take awhile to place them and upload their vertices to the GPU. For those of you reporting very long pauses in real weather situations, what are your current settings? This is a trade off that you ultimately have control over. To some degree, you can think of this pause as the price you pay for it being so detailed and fast at runtime, and this is why during a sim session when clouds are loaded you have faster FPS than default clouds. We will continue to look at optimizing this, but in doing so, if we figure out a way, it may come at a cost of losing FPS as you fly. 2 Quote
ohsirus Posted December 6, 2013 Report Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) So I just did 12 takeoffs from KORF RW5 and each time I would get 3/4 down RWY...Freeze,Cloud Refresh, RWY Lights would turn on. Tried it at night with the RWY lights already on and same freeze 3/4 down. My FPS is 39+. Not sure if the RWY lies on the -60 -140 weather grid split in XPX and has anything to do with it. bruced39 Posted December 6, 2013 Author Report Posted December 6, 2013 Cameron, My settings are not high at all. But I definitely will look to adjust to see if i can lower the pause. Another thing, is there a way to make X-plane load the weather longer? I know I have xsquawkbox set to 60 minutes. But xplane tries to reload every 3-5 minutes. If I could make it longer that would help me out a ton for the time being. Dave Quote
thePuffyPuff Posted December 8, 2013 Report Posted December 8, 2013 It would be nice if the features of the overcast settings could be combined so that you did not have to choose between quality and draw distance. That is, draw a simple solid overcast layer (i.e. the low setting) to provide a blanket into the distance, but render cloud puffs (i.e. the med or high) within the object draw distance. This would provide a nice combination for those who want to practice IFR without getting a peek at the ground. The low setting overcast works OK for this, but the transition from clouds to clear is abrupt. Many Thanks!Rich Quote
