Nicola_M Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 Just downloaded Blender. I am trying to make a simple wing/flat box that goes from the side of a heli to hold a couple of rockets. Nothing fantastic or fancy. Just want a simple plain box. I've created the basic object that I'm happy with. Exported it as Wavefront.obj, (as that's the only option that gives an .obj) and called the object nu.obj into the objects folder of the target heli.Put a damn great png folder 512x512 in green and called it nu.png and put that in the objects folder of the target heli. Went into Planemaker and Standard/Miscellaneous Objects, and selected the nu.obj item. It's not showing up when I adjust the long/lat/vertical numbers. I'm not in this for the long haul, as I've no interest in doing 3D. Just want this one box for this one heli. If it's going to be a dog just for a tiny simple item, then I won't bother.Have read the Blender manual site, but tbh I have no interest in doing any animations (their tutorial). Does anyone know why it's not showing up? Can't see what I've missed. Quote
Kieran Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 X-Plane's .obj format is different to the wavefront .obj, confusing I know.Download the exporter for that version of Blender here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=47934&page=42But TBH, it would be easier just to make it with a misc. wing. 1 Quote
Nicola_M Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 Thanks Kieran. The two obj's makes sense. I just presumed Blender would have some sort of tie-in with xplane and use an obj that was relevant. Misc Wings looks a bit easier. Thanks for the tip. Quote
Nicola_M Posted September 15, 2013 Author Report Posted September 15, 2013 Yay! Result. Thanks again Kieran. Couldn't have gotten there without you. 1 Quote
Nicola_M Posted September 16, 2013 Author Report Posted September 16, 2013 Here's the finished result. Thanks again, Kieran. I wouldn't have had a clue about using PM until you mentioned it. 4 Quote
Nicola_M Posted September 16, 2013 Author Report Posted September 16, 2013 The Misc Wings in PM idea worked, but it won't for the BK117 or the MD-902, as they both already have 20 invisible Misc Wings as part of the body.Looks like a few days of reading Dan Klaue's Blender tutorials are in order..... Claude D Posted September 17, 2013 Report Posted September 17, 2013 they both already have 20 invisible Misc Wings as part of the body. 20 invisible Misc Wings are cheked but in fact only 5 Misc wings are used . . 1 Quote
Nicola_M Posted September 17, 2013 Author Report Posted September 17, 2013 (edited) I think you're right. May have success with the 902! Wings are showing up, but strangely only in red. I've tried a number of figures in the textures box and but can't seem to introduce any other colour. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but at least I can do helis with red wings, at least! Nicola_M Posted September 18, 2013 Author Report Posted September 18, 2013 (edited) Never mind. For some really strange reason I stumbled into the xplane wiki PM manual and managed to change it. Haven't a clue how... Edited September 18, 2013 by Nicola_M 1 Quote
