X-Plane Version(s): X-Plane 10

CYTZ Toronto Island Airport
Authors: CDN 791M and Chris K of the International Scenery Development Group (ISDG)
Version 1.0 - Jun 25, 2013

__________________________________________________________

Features:

- USGS 30cm/pix Hi-res Orthophotos.
- An Updated Toronto City Centre (Billy Bishop) Airport by CDN791M (Ed).
- FreddyV's CN Tower Replacement Object (credits below)
- Extensive buildout of Toronto Island and Surrounding Environs (Ontario Place, Christie Spit, etc)
- Additional Toronto Downtown Buildings in various locations using the XP10 Art Library.

Note: this is a 100% original work for XP10 - and should not detract from Pachett's excellent CYTZ for v9/v10.

__________________________________________________________

Requirements:

- X-Plane 10.20 or Better (http://www.x-plane.com/)

- OpensceneryX 2.0 (http://opensceneryx.com/)

- A Modern Video Card with MINIMUM 512Mb VRAM.

- You will want to run this scenery at "very high" or "extreme" Texture Resolution.

- X-Plane 64-bit and 1 Gb VRAM Video card is recommended for the Higher Texture resolutions.

Complimentary packages (i.e. Where is The Rest of Toronto!?!?)

You should *also* install the following:

CYYZ Toronto Pearson Airport
X-Pilot: http://forums.x-pilot.com/files/file/471-cyyz-toronto-pearson-airport/

Jacques Brault - Toronto Skyline:
X-P.org: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=17619

1. Copy Jacques' Package into your /Custom Scenery/
2. Inside our "CYTZ Toronto Island Airport" package is a folder called "Skyline Package - Night Lighting Textures".
3. Copy in those additional textures (courtesy of ILMARS) to Jacque's Skyline Package's /objects/ directory.
This will give you night textures for the buildings.

Once done:

4. Edit your /Custom Scenery/scenery.ini file to manually position our package at the top of the .ini file
Ensure that our scenery (CYTZ Toronto Island Airport) is before Jacques (zCanada CYTZ Island ON) package in the list.

Your scenery_pack.ini should look something like this:

I1000 versionSCENERYSCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/CYTZ Toronto Island Airport/SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/CYYZ Toronto Pearson/SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/zCanada CYTZ Toronto Island ON/...... other stuff...

(Note: If you don't feel like mucking about with an .ini file - simply delete your personal /Custom Scenery/scenery_packs.ini file, and due to alphabetical order on reload, the load order ends up putting the packages in the correct order).

Upon reload of X-Plane, this scenery then merges with Jacques' excellent Toronto Skyline. Due to the way the X-Plane does object overlays, the two scenery packages blend into one seamless scenery, with full day and night lighting effects.

Hi Chris,

Many thanks to you, Jacques, and all for the magnificent work done here to make Toronto (my home city)  now a realistic city to fly into.

I have messed around in the past with all kinds of FS9 and FSX converts without much success, and had resigned myself to a paltry scenery setup before your great contribution.

As a small return, I have modified the "paint" for your Q400 Air Canada express as the correct color for the wings, ailerons, etc, is the same sky blue as the fuselage.  I can upload the file (24 bit bmp) separately to you so you can add to your package if you wish, but let me know an email or other address to which I can add an attachment file.

This bmp texture file works great with your obj file, even though a dds format is specified. For some reason when I convert this bmp to dds using DXT1 bitmap manipulator and try to use that, the plane is all white!

Regards,

Roy

Cool. thanks.! Thats either rivere's or patchett's Q400 I think. (CDN/Ed knows). Sure! Just zip it and upload it, and attach it to a private Message to me. I'll see that Ed gets it included for the next build!

Use XGrinder here for best results: http://developer.x-plane.com/tools/xptools/  Theres a nice GUI for DDSTool in there - just drag and drop the BMP/PNG and out pops a DDS

it seems as this scenery, in conjunction with the other 2 suggested alongside it (the City Skyline and Lester Pearson Airport), wipes away the "ordinary" or rest of the Toronto scenery. Outside the citycenter there is nothing, only flat ground: all the roads and buildings etc disappers!?

That makes no sense. This scenery package does not add any exclusion zones whatsoever outside the downtown core.

Try each one individually?

Can you PM me your log.txt? Something else must be interfering.

There is a button abive called [support topic] - suggest you post there. "comments" in the file take a week to show up... and I dont get any flag to say "a new comment has been left".

Did you somehow install CDN719M"s "Southern Ontario Replacement Mesh"? Thats what it sounds like to me - which I never said you should add.

There's only 3 files you need. This one, the Skyline one, and my CYYZ One.

Do NOT install any type of "replacement mesh" - that's for XP8/XP9. XP10 already has reasonably accurate coastlines and rivers in this area.

My instructions above were very clear.

- CK.

Yes, your instructions were clear, and I think I followed them. I had some replacement mesh before, maybe from simheaven, I dont remember. It looks like UrbanMaxx, which I also had a while ago, i.e, nice from a bit up, as if lots of buildings etc, but flat and ugly on the ground. The only reason I can see is that some of these replacements corrupted my Toronto area. The only strange thing is that the building etc were there a while ago, after I had removed these replacements - I think, I cannot recall.

There is however also other strange things starting to happen a while back: when saving a replay, and then replaying it a few days later, the plane is sometimes - randomly, it seems - above or below the runway. So maybe I need to reinstall the game (I have tried to update the game, and removed lots of newly installed sceneries, to no avail) to clear some general corruption out.

In the log file there is nothing about the Toronto sceneries (except for the minor thing reported about Person at this site), and minor things about other sceneries.

I report back if I find the solution, as I really want to experience this great Toronto scenery.

Thanks,

ion fresko

Simheaven completely replaces anything in an area. It is a "bulldozer" style replacement terrain DSF - and will cause you problems if its installed in weird orders. it will supress all other scenery in an area. It also uses terrible quality orthos, so you're not losing much by not using it!

Try moving things out of your custom scenery directory first (i.e. make mainly empty), and only add the 3 Toronto files first ( to ensure they work fine) and OpensceneryX. That should be all you need to make this work. (my CYYZ may complain about some missing container files, but that's a known bug at this point).

Let me know how that works... i.e. "back to basics". Nothing in /Custom Scenery/ but CYYZ, CYTZ, zToronto, and OpensceneryX.

Sorry you're having so much trouble using X-Plane's Custom Scenery. it was actually designed to be reasy to use for the end-user. Unfortunately, looks like we have 3 or 4 competing sceneries all vying for that tile space here!

Yes! - Now it works! I followed your instructions and now it all works perfectly - the base Toronto scenery must have been totally corrupted by some replacement file, it looked really weird. After cleaning the Custom Scenery folder I also updated X-plane with the standard package, before putting your sceneries (and Open Scenery) back in.

I cannot really understand why it works now - as the corrupted scenery would have been in the global scenery folder, I guess, and what I updated, it seems, was things in the Custom Scenery folder, and among them not Toronto, it seems - but it does not matter. And for sure I will be more careful with what I throw into the Custom Scenery folder: really weird that, even after taking everyting Torontonian out from the Custom scenery folder, the base scenery was still corrupted.

So, big big thank you for you help - I would never have solved this problem myself.

The sceneries look fabulous, and I have some flying to look forward to!

I just want to say I know now the problem exactly: I had a custom scenery folder called "ZYTZ Terrain" - in which it is the Toronto tile (+43-080)! So I guess I simply renamed CYTZ to ZYTZ, which I missed when I looked around for something which might cause the problem, because it looks like a Chinese terrain/scenery. So after spending half the day investigating I know for sure it was this bastard causing the problem. I don't know from where I got it, just a small file, no info whatsoever. Embarrasing...
