Colin S Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 So there's all this hubub about the problems (the MANY Problems, may I add) with the 787 all within a couple of weeks. I have one response: DH Comet. Did we say "oh my god jet aircraft are hell-bent on destroying lives and killing people"? nope. We fixed the problem and now rely primarily on jet aircraft for long range transportation. I think Boeing should really think hard and long before saying "Ok, they're safe to fly NOW." I fear that in the not-so-brave new scaredy-cat world of people who fear new technology, the 787 could become a bizarre page in history much like the unfortunate fate of nuclear power. At least an engine hasn't disintegrated mid flight. That's never happened before on a new plane the Comet was incomplete too, and became even more so when it blew up mid flight from structural failures. Evolution of technology. The first microwave ovens were the size of an upright piano and took like two hours to so a pizza... evolution. Give it time. There will be a time for composite large aircraft. Boeing is trying to make it happen. Quote
