Orcair Posted November 18, 2012 Report Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) So my trusty MacBookPro is just not able to keep anymore. While I am sad to have to go to Windows costs cause me too.So far I have found one that looks good and I would like your opinions. It is $1000CAD so keep that in mind. $1100 is my max.Desktop .htmlAlso what are your thoughts on the GTX 650 Ti?Thanks, Orcair Edited November 18, 2012 by Orcair Quote
Ntr09 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 First of all, don't go to windows, get Linux of some sort (my favorite is any flavor of LinuxMint). Second, don't get that PSU, get a Corsair brand one (700watt should work fine, mine is 700 watt). Third, don't get that RAM, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144 I have 16gb of it, works great all the way up to 1800Mhz and beyond. The 650Ti should be fine, but a 660 blows it away. EVGA is a good brand. Other than that, looks fine, might opt for a better case and cpu cooler (liquid is great if you can afford it) and I might opt for a Western Digital HDD. Have fun building!-NR 1 Quote
Colin S Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 As a Mac user myself (and not a devoted one that kills when people use Windows), I don't recommend jumping from Mac OSX straight to a Linux operating system or you will spend a good month just trying to figure out how to use the less user-friendly interface and environment. I agree. I am not confident about my ability to use Linux, and some aircraft are not Linux-capable so I will stick with Windows at the moment. Quote
Ryan M. Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Windows looks to be the right choice! Quote
Ntr09 Posted December 5, 2012 Report Posted December 5, 2012 The user interface of many Linux distros are far from non user friendly. In fact, Linux Mint, especially with XFCE, is easier to use than WinXP. So long is the list of linux misconceptions... -NR Quote
Orcair Posted December 6, 2012 Author Report Posted December 6, 2012 I do understand that with ubuntu you get a nice GUI. HOWEVER, as I wish to continue providing reviews for all new aircraft, keeping it OS X/Windows is a better choice as not all new aircraft are compatible with linux. I wish to publish reviews soon after release, not having to wait for a linux version to be released. Quote
