sichars1968 Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 I am in the process of making some hangar objects in SketchUp and I have been trying to find out how to put the textures and colours used on the various faces of the object onto the required one texture file/collage. Do I somehow open up the 'object' SketchUp file in GIMP or the like and do it like that? I have tried the 'other' site but it is loading up extremely slowly tonight, so I was hoping somebody could help out here.I have downloaded the export file from Marginal's website so I am ready to go in that respect.Any help is much appreciated.RegardsSimon Quote
Kaphias Posted October 8, 2012 Report Posted October 8, 2012 There are a great set of tutorials on YouTube, I'm not on my computer so I can't link, but you should be able to find them in a search. Try "sketch up x-plane tutorial" or similar. Quote
sichars1968 Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks Kaphias. The tutorials you speak of are by Simmo I believe, but he doesn't actually show the one little bit I'm after. He goes through actually texturing the object in lesson 1, and then swaps textures with othe png's already created and how to put these on the object in SU, I want to know how I should create the 'collage' png file from SU in the first place, so it can be exported to XP with the required one texture file.Simon Quote
AnonymousUser68 Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Get all the textures you want and put them on a transparent photoshop file with a size of 1024x1024 or 2048x2048. Then save the file as a png. Here is an example of one of my "collages" Quote
uwespeed Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 ... file with a size of 1024x1024 or 2048x2048.Or even 4096 x 4096 since X-Plane 10.10. But be aware that any prior version won't be able to process this large file. Quote
Kaphias Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Or even 4096 x 4096 since X-Plane 10.10. But be aware that any prior version won't be able to process this large file.Or any rectangle as long as the dimensions are powers of two... it doesn't have to be a square. Quote
sichars1968 Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks for the help everybody.Still not making clear the part I want to know. I have textured the hangar in SU, but I know I have to put these textures on one 1024x1024(or whatever to power 2) png file. How do I get the textures I have used in SU into GIMP to make the png? Many thanks,Simon Quote
Kaphias Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 Generally people design their textures in GIMP (or Photoshop, etc.) then import them to SketchUp and texture the building. I'm not sure if the textures included in SketchUp can be exported so that you could design the texture file using those textures instead of making your own, did a little Googling and couldn't find a straight answer for the latest version. sichars1968 Posted October 9, 2012 Author Report Posted October 9, 2012 Oh okay Kaphias, this is obviously the point I was missing(although I had started to think that this must be the way!!)I will have a go and see what I can come up with, and many thanks for taking the time and having the patience to help me out.Simon Quote
Kaphias Posted October 9, 2012 Report Posted October 9, 2012 CG Textures is an awesome site. And it looks like they allow payware redistribution... thanks for the link! Quote

skiflyzander Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 I also have a question about SU and Hangars. I am trying to put a texture on for the roof, but it won't work. I tried doing it with the "projected" option and that didn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is frustrating! Quote
