I have been exploring facades and found the Blue_Hangar.fac & White_Hangar.fac but these are very tall hangars with a ROOF_HEIGHT of 18.893000 & 28.893000 meters which is a bit tall for a Cessna 172. :D

I was wondering if there are any facade tee hangars in the pipeline with a ROOF_HEIGHT of 4 or 5 meters with a peeked roof and bifold or sliding door or solid wall selection? I would also think 3 or 4 colour choices would be good.

Thanks Bill

I am currently designing a small airport. The medium hanger was too big and the small hanger was to small. I then decided to use the hanger facade and found a 20 meter tall building in the middle of the airport which is a bit much for a Cessna. I agree Bill, the scenery library is great but I am looking forward to more objects being imported in further updates.

Hi Bill and XPA

I haven't actually used the hangar facades, but why don't you just change the height of the hangars when you place them in WED. I have done this with the terminal facades and it works well.

with a peaked roof

Hey Bill. Peaked roofs are a no-go with facades. These roofs are created "on the fly" and it would be impossible to create a peaked roof and still maintain the flexibility of having users create their own shape. If a user decides to draw a hangar in the shape of a circle with a straight section, that would be a tough peaked roof indeed....so roofs on facades will have to stay flat.

but why don't you just change the height of the hangars when you place them in WED

The height value in WED is not an absolute value. It simply takes your number and looks for the closest facade pieces to tht height. Facade heights are "hard created" in 3D so if I only create one height, then you only get one height no matter what you type in WED. Why is this? Well lets say if I have 15 facade pieces...and I want those pieces in 1/2 meter increments...say from 5m to 15m...that would be 20 height variations per piece...x 15 pieces..I'd have to create 300 pieces in Blender for that one hangar style. Create 4 more styles and that's 1500 pieces..for 5 hangars only. Start adding in some parking garages...more styles and the next thing you know, we're managing 10000 objects in a blender file and that gets to be cumbersome.

The purpose of the library is to populate the default airports "more reasonably than FSX did"...and when the final implementation gets done, we will definitely see that. It isn't really designed for custom stuff. The more like reality you want to get, the more you will have to stray from the library objects when it comes to structures. They're there to help you fill in bits and pieces but not give you everything.

Now over time, of course we'll continue to improve the flexibility and variety of the library so it indeed will grow...but for facades, roofs will remain flat.

I haven't used WED enough yet to have noticed the height of facade if input by the user will select the nearest to it. From your explanation I can fully understand why this is the way it is.

Once again thanks for taking the time to explain this.

Thanks for the info and for tee hangars looks like I will use my objects created in blender and then look for some of your textures. I will look at the existing hangars and see if I can adapt the textures they are using.

I am glad that this open dialogue is possible.

Thanks Bill

Is there a way to tell how many heights a given facade has?    Also, is it possible to scale an "agp" entity such as the "Long_row_beige.agp" TEE hangar row?

Thanks

Hi  Wayne,

There is no way to scale an agp entity.  An AGP simple references an existing object.   Also, there is no way to tell how many heights a facade has currently.    These are issues that have been discussed and noted and finishing up  / cleaning / organizing the default scenery library is on the short list of things to do.  Over time, we'll add more variations of objects....i.e. longer hangars, bigger hangars etc.
