larjeet Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) yes when you get up close and fly through them they look great but what are those squared off abortions in the distance Edited January 8, 2012 by larjeet Quote
Muskoka Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) Simon, don't go to Beta 10 yet. Something is definetly wrong with the clouds, guys are complaining on many sites. They are horrible compared to what was there in earlier betas. If I could go back to Beta 7 right now I would.Glen Edited January 8, 2012 by Muskoka Quote
jadedguy Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 yes when you get up close and fly through them they look great but what are those squared off abortions in the distancehaha yeah I know I saw some of those yesterday but can't get them to reappear today- been regenerating different weather many times. Strange... Quote
Baber20 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I wish I hadn't updated to beta 10... Quote

Or do we all need to protest like I've seen at MS Flight's Facebook page?! Quote
MaidenFan Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 They need to make a way to revert back to your older version. Those who updated are screwed I guess...If enough people don't like it, the team will probably change it back. Beta 10 is a huge step down from 7 Quote
OlaHaldor Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I made a few screenshots. The frame rate went down quite a bit as I zoomed out to a wide angle like this, but I think it was necessary to show how the clouds change at the different percent settings. The file names are 20, 40, 70 and 100, which is the percent used. Then there's an image of the clouds set up for the screenshots. The time I went from 25% to 100% must have been with real time weather, because I didn't have too much clouds, rather light and natural for that area really. But with big, thick clouds as in this screenshot, I preferred flying with 40% unless I'd choke my system.http://www.olahaldor.net/scrap/20.zip Quote
dpny Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Based on a few brief flights, the advantage to the new cloud system is that you can up the number of puffs quite a bit without affecting frame rate. The downside is the new clouds don't look as good. Quote
Simmo W Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I made a few screenshots. http://www.olahaldor.net/scrap/20.zipThanks Ola! Yeuck to those last 3! Quote
Baber20 Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 (edited) This is how the clouds looked in earlier betas. gosh i miss those clouds so much... I have already notified Austin about it. Filed a bug report yesterday. He says he will look into it for beta 11. Edited January 8, 2012 by Baber20 Quote

Then not so much anymore. Either way nice pics. Add 3 layers of cumulus, Mega tons objs. At tom curtis KSEA and youll get in the 21 to 26 fps only Quote

chris k Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Yep - The "New Clouds" suck.Reminds me of "New Coke" in the 1980s - Bring Back Coke Classic... err I mean "XP10 Clouds Classic!"- CK. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 But why do you complain about it? You're clearly OFF COURSE. Maybe XP is punishing you for it. Quote
larjeet Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I sent an email to Ben with this photo attached and this was his reply "Ah yes - this is an issue Austin is working on now. " Quote

Hmm lets see here...Maybe because they took something that worked fine and looked great in beta 7 and made it look worse and run not as good. But yeah y am i complaining.... Hmmmm. And those screenies you took are a good example. If you would have took them around any populated area and not out where there are hardly any OBJs you woulda gotta lower frames than you were. Either way i can still get good frames just looks like crap..... Ahhhh beta 7 how i miss you. This video i made in beta 7 on vatsim. There were three layers of clouds, Extreme res.Mega tons obs,Tons on the roads, World detail distance very high and still got 45 frames around the clouds. 40,40,40 on the three sliders. New betas cant get that look anymore. Edited January 8, 2012 by mutestyles Quote

uwespeed Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 This discussion reminds me to XP9 ... The clouds were also nicer - fluffier - in the early version, but then (around 9.20?) they get worse and people wanted to have back the old ones. Unfortunately their (and also mine) wish wasn't answered. Quote
