I love this aircraft and the way it handles. The revised engine sounds are awesome in version 2.0.1.

However, intermittently, the sound that the wheels make (especially at higher speeds) becomes brutally harsh, even on grass surfaces. On asphalt/gravel, it reminds of dragging an old "Radio Flyer" red wagon, with hard plastic wheels, across a rough asphalt or concrete surface. On the grass, it sounds like rocks are constantly hitting the bottom of the aircraft, and at higher speeds, sounds like firecrackers going off nearby. And also that wheel sound abruptly cuts of with no sense of fading when the aircraft lifts off the ground.

For me, this really kills the overall immersion of flying this beauty.

Is this a known issue, and are there any plans to enhance these sounds to make them more realistic, or behave better? It actually sounds quite nice when it doesn't happen, but unfortunately it happens more often than not for me.

Turning down the "Environmental" sound slider in X-Plane settings will help for now. We have it adjusted for the next update which is in the final testing stages.

Just downloaded version 2.0.2 and sadly the wheel sounds are exactly the same. No improvement whatsoever :(

Also, turning down the environment sound does not reduce the wheel sound at all.

If this is true then the wheel sounds you are hearing are not from our addon. Are you using XPrealistic? The environmental slider will absolutely lower the gear audio. If you are still hearing this noise then there is something else causing it. Not the gear audio which is tied directly into the environmental Bus. Hope that makes sense.

What you're saying absolutely makes sense. I tried this again with a completely vanilla X-Plane 12 installation with only this aircraft and the required Gizmo64 plugin. No other aircraft addons, no custom scenery, no other plugins, and still I get this harsh sound.

Did a little testing with the sound sliders:

  • Turned all sliders off except the "environmental", and I could not hear that harsh sound, but I could hear other sweet sounds of the wind going by. Not sure if I heard any faint sounds of wheels rolling on the ground though.
  • Turned off the "environmental" slider and turned up the "external" slider only. Along with the engine sound, I could partially hear that harsh sound.
  • Turned off the "external" slider and turned up the "internal" slider only. This is where I hear the majority of that harsh sound.

Since I hear this mostly from the interior slider, is it possible that there are sounds from the suspension (if you even have that in your sound bank) as heard from the interior?
