avantime Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 Is it just me or are the spoilers simply not very effective? At around 50t at 30,000ft I can barely descend at 2500ft/min with spoilers at flight detent, without the airspeed increasing. Quote
Tchou Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 This has been already adressed in the forum, yes they are not very effective like in the real plane. it is better to use them as soon as possible, the higher and the faster you are, the better they work. Quote
avantime Posted May 28, 2016 Author Report Posted May 28, 2016 Thanks, I was having problems searching as the results I got all have something to do with ground spoiler logic. Quote
FloB Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) Jan stated that the spoilers would add 500fpm to the descend (without slowing the plane down). That's not much and much less than what I was used from other planes (probably modeled to make up for poor descend planning by stupid pilots like me). Descend has become a real challenge thanks to IXEG. I'm slowly getting used to it... Edited May 28, 2016 by FloB Quote

You might want to use a pitch & power table for estimating decents Note that this table is handflown and some values differ from the Continental 737 Manual (I think some of the Continental numbers are way off). Besides that, I think you are good using the "/3" method: At 90 DME you need to start your decent at 30k ft. IXEG 733 Pitch and Power Table.xlsx Edited May 29, 2016 by frumpy Quote
FloB Posted May 29, 2016 Report Posted May 29, 2016 Thanks, I was actually thinking of making a table myself. Saved me a lot of time . I often get fooled by alt restriction when flying without VNAV: I forged to set a new alt after passing a certain point with alt restriction or underestimate the time it takes to slow down...and than things get easily out of control. cmbaviator Posted May 30, 2016 Report Posted May 30, 2016 The probleme is that currently we can only descent at T/D as the the des now is not working currently Quote

Or just use V/S to start the descent. Jan Quote
DarrenHowie Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 Home flight simulators over estimate the effectiveness of speed brakes in general. 3 X Alitude plus 10 for a descent profile works for almost all narrow body jets. aim to be at 11000' and 250 at 40nm to go. at 30nm 8000 at 20nm 5000 and 10nm 3000' and 210kts. works in the real world...
