I got really mad at the controller. Then I realized that I was the blame and I got mad with myself for not being able to follow those instructions.

After reading your post again. I think this controller was messing with you. I have a bad temper, so I know how easy it is to get angry. Don't be afraid to tell the controller that you don't know how do that. Please instruct me how to fly an outbound VOR radius or just give a heading. If he gives crap about this, tell him to quit busting your balls and please give me a heading to fly. Don't do nothing untill you understand what the controller is telling you do. Your flying the plane, not him!!!

It has been a while since I have had to deal ATC on IVAO. IVAO controllers favorite trick is to call me when I am on final and less than 1000 ft AGL. That makes me angry, but I complained about this and they have not done this again.

  2. I understand. Pilotedge cost money and I am too cheap. I like IVAO because of their training documents. Training Documents IVAO is good stuff. You can look at them without an account or signing in. Easy to read and navigate. I do not look for ATC on the IVAO network. In the US and Canada it is rare you will run into ATC. And if you do it is Center online and I fly VFR without flight following. They do not bother me unless I enter Class B airspace. I never enter Class B airspace, I do not fly into major airports like KLAS or KLAX. And in Alaska, it very rare you will see ATC, unless there is an event taking place.

The Las Vegas area, I know the North Las Vegas airport And the Henderson airport is Class B . Boulder City is uncontrolled airspace. Nellis AFB is military ops.

What I have learned of the years is navigate your plane first. You are the pilot in command. Then Commutate. And turn right 10 degrees don't cut it with me either and my response would have been Unable,  Request a heading. And you have to remain calm, don't get all freaky diky. I have a scratch pad close by so I can right the headings and transponer numbers down.

I know PE has real world controllers for the lax artcc. And I have never had formal training. I could not fly an outbound VOR radius, again I would have requested a heading. I have never flown a real aircraft. And my Piper Arrow 3 does not have a digital heading read out. I have to use my FSTramp for my headings.

Flying IFR, you have to be in contact with ATC at all times if they are online in IVAO.

I had some ATC training from a real world controller many years ago. Interesting to say the least.

  3. @VirtualGAaviator I am surprised that you are not interested in a network with live ATC. You started your PPL and got a taste of real world flying and talking to ATC.

A flight log is the reason I started my own VA. Was for the sole purpose to have my personal flight log. I do accept pilots, but I do not care about how many pilots join, like other VA's that will not delete inactive pilots. And I have 2 pilots, so that proves my point. My VA only flys small turboprops and prop aircraft. Most simulator pilots want to fly for a simulated real world airline and fly the airliners or I call big birds. And I did that for the first 10 years of flight simulation hobby. VA's like UPS, Jetblue, Flying tigers group(until I got kicked out of), Thai Intl and others with multi airlines like Fly virtual or worldwide virtual. The short period of time I used FSX on steam, I started buying small aircraft from carenado and never looked back to the big birds and still have no desire to fly the big birds again.

I will not leave IVAO and I am a member Poscon, but have never made a flight on this network. And sorry, I have no interest in Volanta.

WOW, I have been doing flight simulation for 22 years, time flys when your having fun!! Woooo!

Volanta is great. If you haven't tried it you're missing a lot.

I know nothing about Volanta. But I have heard of it from Navigraph survey. There are two parts to aviation. One the pilots flying the plane and two air traffic control. I do not know if Volanta has live ATC. But I do know IVAO has live ATC. People say "I get my ATC from my simulator or I get my ATC from an ATC program". The problem with this is that you do not have to comunicate with an air traffic controller.

With live ATC, do you know how to ask for an IFR clearance? Do you know how to ask for a VFR clearance to enter Class b airspace?  What are the ATC positions that can be maned(IE DEL, GND, TWR, APP, CENTER)? And Phraseology is very important for pilots and ATC.

If you want fly as real as it gets and experience real world flying, Live ATC is the real deal.

I understand that IVAO is not the only network with live ATC. IVAO is the network I like to fly on.

A virtual Airline is basically a flight log with rank. I have been with a lot VA's since 2001. The reason I left most VA's was because of rejected pireps for varies reasons. I was kicked out of one VA.

The difference between VA's are the rules they have. Some VA's have strict rules and some not so many. Back in the day, you had to file a manual pirep after each flight. Now a days most VA's has an ACARS system connected to their website, But all pireps still have to be approved.

The Va's with the strict rules try to simulate real world airline operations. And all pilots are required to read FAR/AIM.

Last, Live ATC makes you a better pilot.

  5. Flying for a Virtual Airlines can be good and bad, depending on the VA. I fly for two VA's one of which is my own. My VA is Air Nevada. Air Nevada only flys turboprop and prop aircraft. NO  JETS. 54 aircraft, over 6000 routes on the schedule(any where in the US and Canada). The other one is Platinum airways. Here you can fly any aircraft and fly anywhere and then file a manual pirep. I have over 7500 hours flying for Platinum Airways and just over 4500 hours for Air Nevada.

I consider myself a Bad A@# simulator pilot and one of best, when it comes to flying small aircraft. I fly everyday, all day on the IVAO Network, the best Network on the internet today, no question.

So what VA do ya all for?

Yes its brought the best and worst out in people. Didnt ever think flying an aeroplane on a PC could do that.

I agree. It is not about flying aircraft on a pc, no one cares about that. This about the debate over which simulator is the best or the worst. In this forum it is between XP11 and XP12.

For me it is about flying aircraft on a PC. Love it. It has consumed my life. It what I want to do everyday, all day. And I do. Since 2019 I have close to 10,000 hours in xp11. Based on steam data.

Flying in Alaska in a small plane give me a hard on. The best place to fly in the summer time. IMO. JF Piper Arrow 3 is working very well for me in Alaska. Just have to watch the weather very close. Some airport sceneries in Alaska needs some work, but I am slowly working on that.

And last, I am spending way to much time on this forum. I need to spend more time flying.

  7. PACK has been put right on top the town. I have not tried to fix this. Do not want to recreate the town after I move the airport to the proper location. I do not know how to recreate the town nor do I want to learn. I do airport scenery mods only.

Just enjoy the atmosphere. Never go back to 11, to much atmosphere in 12.

Very happy to hear you are enjoying X-Plane 12. You are enjoying X-Plane 12 just like am enjoying X-Plane 11. I always fly in real world weather FS Global real world weather engine. Only difference is I do not see the rain and snow on the ground.

Your never going back to x-plane 11, just like I am never going back to Microsoft flight simulators.

The best thing of all is flight simulation and we both enjoy doing it.

I know Laminar didn't help that cause when they tried to sell v12 as having backwards compatibility for v11 stuff.

This does not surpise me. In 1999 thru 2004 Microsoft said the same thing about backwards compatibility with every new simulator they come out with. It was lie.

This topic is all twisted. I will not being up 3rd party devs any more in this thread. The topic is about flying aircraft. Someone should start a new thread about what 3rd party devs are doing. And I take the blame for all this BS. I have no plans to buy XP12 anytime soon, so why should I give a s@#$ about what 3rd party devs are doing with xp12.

What do ya all say about getting back on topic. Lets talk about flying aircraft(IE XP11 or XP12).

I don't drink or smoke so I consider this my vice. That's why I'm quick to pickup sim stuff. House is paid for, kid is grown and gon

WOW! Same here, no smoke or drink and no drugs. Our house is paid for. I do have a wife and she is the greatest woman in the world in my eyes. Kids are gone.

Flight simulation is all I do everyday , all day. The only thing I work at is my weight. Not very active, so I really have to watch what and how much I eat daily. 5'11" tall and 200 lbs, I have a beer gut, but I do not drink. I am working very hard to lose weight and get below 200 lbs.

The main reason I not buying aircraft is because one I have been saving for a new computer and two my wife and I are tight wads.

  11. VirtualGAaviator,

I agree with you. I put my foot in my mouth and said something I know nothing about and Cameron Corrected me. I have no problem paying for an aircraft, I have learned with xp11 about quality aircraft or complex aircraft. I have figured out which devs makes good complex aircraft. And I have my eye on about 4 aircraft for xp11. But first a new computer. Since I retired, I do not have the funds I had when I was working. I took a 50% cut in funds when I retired. But all good, I love being retired. So paying for aircraft has slowed down. And I have about 5 aircraft that I have bought that I flat out do not like and will not fly ever again. And most of my aircraft come from Carenado. I have 2 aircraft from Carenado that I do like to fly and 3 aircraft from Just Flight that I like to fly.

As I said above, Right now I have no interest in XP12. I have spent a lot of time modifying a lot of airport sceneries. And the aircraft that I have bought to switch right now. I am sold on xp and will never leave this simulator. I will switch to xp12 in due time.

Thank you for thoughts on 3rd party devs. I still wonder what is the profit margin on aircraft vs the time it takes to develop one aircraft and put it on the market. Then the time spent supporting the aircraft after it is on the market. It is hard for me to see how these people make any money with the time they spend on one aircraft. Time is money, bottom line. But they do or they would not be doing it.

Updating aircraft for X-Plane 12 is a huge effort, and one with which devs wish wasn't so involved. It's more productive to work on new products than to update old.

Ok, Well  my apologies. I have no idea what it takes to make an aircraft or update an aircraft. What is the profit 3rd party devs make off a new aircraft made for xp11 or 12. The time it takes make and test the aircraft, then find somone to sell their products like x-aviation which I know gets a piece of the profits. All this will equal to an hourly wage for the 3rd party devs.

I get not wanting to update old products. More time spent(time is money) on an old product. Then if they do not charge for the update, they lose money. I get it.

I did not follow XP11 when it first came out. I bought it 2 years after it came out and their were  a lot of aircraft available to buy.

Now XP12 comes out and seems it is taking forever to come out with new aircraft for XP12. But lets see what this looks like after 2 years. Then LR will continue to change XP12 that will affect the existing aircraft and now another update or in some cases with XP11, No updates. New aircraft show up.

@Cameron Thank-you for your reply and please accept my apologies. Other forums would have deleted my post or suspended me. This is why I am with x-pilots.com.

  13. You know back in the day, Microsoft would come out with a new simulator and very few aircraft would work from the old simulator. Now LR is doing the same with xp. And I think the 3rd party devs have something to do with this. This is all about money. 3rd party devs are charging for updated aircraft, not all of them , some are.

LR has come out with programs like WED and make a plane and others for free, where Microsoft never did that, you have to pay for all these other programs.

And again I will say, I have no interest in XP12 right now. I have too much invested in XP11( time and money) to switch now. With a new computer coming next month, I will finally see what XP11 really looks like.

Back to flying my Piper arrow 3 in Alaska. I have over 200 hours in the arrow 3 and my landings are getting better and better. Main reason is I am learning how compensate for the engine torque, always pulling to the left. Using my ailerons on approach, then just before I touch down, I kick in my rudder to point the nose straight down the runway and flare. Bam, Nailed it!! My vertical  landing speeds are under a 100 all the time. Soft as a feather.

I am a true flight simulator bush pilot.

Leaning is done based on EGT, not CHT

True, because the arrow does not have an CHT gauge. The JF Arrow 3, if you would run at peak, you will exceed max temperature on the EGT and risk burning a hole in your exhaust pipes. I read the POH on the arrow, but the engine gauges on JF Arrow 3 do not reflex what the poh says. With that said, I run my JF arrow 3 225 degrees lean of peak, brings the EGT temperature lower than max EGT temperature.

Again, the article I had to reference what I am saying no longer exist.

In a real arrow 3 aircraft, I agree with your references. But would I follow the POH in real life????? I have never flown a real aircraft of any kind.

  15. I fly the Piper Arrow 3 and the mixture lever. Rich of peak or lean of peak. All aircraft POH's recommend running rich of peak. There are two gauges that will reflect the mixture settings. The EGT and the CHT and the CHT gauge is not in all aircraft, my piper does not have the gauge. I think the Cylinder head temperature gauge is the most important. If you only have the Exhaust gas temperature gauge then you have work off this gauge.

I run the JF Piper Arrow 3 Lean of peak because of the oil temperature stays cooler then Rich of peak. And I read also the CHT will run cooler  in real world aircraft.

I used to have a article that backs up my data, but it is no longer available.

Then I fell in love with the PC-12

Is this aircraft made by Carenado? If so,  I have this aircraft and there is no ground roll sound and makes it very hard to tell when your wheels touch the ground, and can make for some hard landing. Other then that the aircraft flys very well. I flew the aircraft for about 100 hours and quit and never have flown it since.

To move an aircraft from one location to another you have to fly it there. No teleporting

This is the way I have been operating for some time now. There is no teleporting in my virtual world.

Do you think the internet is giving me a short attention span?

Ok, I admit, I do not get it? The internet does not give me a short attention span. I am all ways searching for something. The internet has everything I want, Knowledge.

Knowledge is power. But power, I do not have. My wife has all the power(Pus#$%).

Ok, lets get back to flying airplanes.

Whether Google maps has this info

Google maps shows runways, taxiways, ramps, and  buildings. It is hard to tell what type of buildings they are I.E. Hangers, terminals, or admin. Not only do I look at google maps, but WED also shows the airports runways, ramps, and taxiways in the right lat and log. Most airports I download from the gateway, nothing is in the exact location. I have to move the runway and taxiways and sometimes the ramps.

I do not have great attention to detail. Some markings, ATC routes, AI movements are not in my airport sceneries.

SkyVector.com is a great source of information. Like runway lighting, approach lighting systems and the type of runways( concrete, Asphalt, gravel), control towers or no control towers.

All the airports sceneries I do are small Muni or regl airports. These are the airports I use all the time. I fly small aircraft. I never fly the jets anymore since I switched to xp11. So I do not touch the big INTL airports.

I need to check what version of WED I am using and start using the WED 2.5, if I am not already using it.

  19. I continue to modify small airports in Alaska. X-plane Scernery Gateway forgets to add the ramps to small airports. And Google maps even shows the ramp connected to the runway. If your going to create an airport make it look like the real world airport, as best you can.

I have created and modified so many airports in X-plane 11, I may never switch to x-plane 12. I get x-plane 12 I would have to start over with all the airports I have modified or created. And will the scenery libraries for x-plane 11 work in xp12?

For me xp11 is problem free. XP11 ROCKS!! XP12 ????????
