  1. Try opening a thread about your problem in exactly this forum.
  2. Lol, yeah, that spam is really really bad...
  3. Leg 6: Florence (LIRQ) - Rome (LIRF)
  4. In a rant, you usually just complain about something, mostly in an emotional manner. (The German translation of "rant", by the way, is "Hasstirade" or "Schimpftirade", meaning "hatred tirade" or "grumbling / bitching about sth. tirade") In this thread, a problem is pointed out not just for the sake of "ranting", but for seriously discussing possible solutions to the problem (i.e. the pixel per meters/feet approach).
  5. This thread is not about being happy with what we have -- It is about misleading marketing, and it is an attempt to offer a clear definition of the term HD, so potential customers could get a clear idea if a product marketed with HD is indeed HD. That's not a rant, but a constructive discussion.
  6. Leg 5: Modena to Florence
  7. 1. Did you press the APR button? This is necessary to tell the AP that it should start the ILS approach. 2. At which height did you start the localizer approach? If you were too high, even in APR mode it will not capture the glideslope and overfly instead. Then, when the localizer is behind you, it will of course turn. Please note that the AP in the C172SP is the standard X-Plane autopilot which you will find in about 90% of all aircraft. It works fine most of the time, but sometimes it's a bit tricky. Try to capture the glideslope a bit from below.
  8. Hi jwk, I'm not Alan, but I think I still answer. The C172SP, as most X-Plane aircraft, internally uses the X-Plane default autopilot system. Thus, it works perfectly fine with the new GNS 430/530 (There never was any X-Plane version numbered 10.26, and the new GNS430 came with X-Plane 10.30). (In the C172, make sure that all circuit breakers are active; if not, simply push them in). It is very easy. You simply have to select the GPS as navigation source (use the NAV/GPS button left of the COM panel for the selection), then switch on the autopilot and press the NAV button. Then your aircraft will follow the flight plan (or Direct-To) which you have entered or loaded into the GPS. The PlaneMaker changes people made (and which you mentioned) were only necessary for older addons which were made for X-Plane version < 10.30. In these cases, X-Plane uses the old GPS by default, but by a simply selection in PlaneMaker (Standard -> Systems -> pilot use modern ARINC424 capable) it will use the new one. In Alan's C172SP, you don't need to make such changes; it uses the modern GPS by default.
  9. Thanks Yes, I know -- but for the YouTube videos, I don't listen to own music. Otherwise the videos would probably be blocked in Germany, because YouTube and the GEMA (important organziation for music licensing in Germany) don't have an agreement about that. So if I play a song in my video which is available in Germany, it is not allowed and YouTube either blocks access to the video in Germany, or removes the audio... And here comes part 4: Leg 4: Voghera to Modena
  10. Leg 3: Lugano to Voghera
  11. Thank you
  12. Leg 2: Innsbruck to Lugano This 2nd video is without HDR, which made it possible to record it in HD (720p), while having increased and steadier framerate. If you like the flight, like it at YouTube
  13. Leg 1: Portoroz to Innsbruck Part 1 of a Let's Play series where I fly the Panthera to places which you can tell me: Sorry for the bad video quality, my computer is too slow for HD recording Comments are mostly in German, but later in the video (12:00) I also start to talk in English. Next destination is Lugano, but you can write me in the YT comments where I should go next (starting from Lugano; I can fly to all destinations included in my scenery map: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/viewer?mid=zKdUoyDRH6j0.k7Q3rMFgZpe4)
  14. My definition of "FSX based" is that there is an Aerosoft product for FSX which is afterwards made available nearly identical for X-Plane. With EHAM, this is not the case -- although there is an old Aerosoft EHAM for FSX, the X-Plane airport has a completely different look with new textures and 3d models. Just compare screenshots. It might well be that the orthophoto and some general map stuff comes from the resources Aerosoft already had. Dublin, however, is clearly the X-Plane version of Mega Airport Dublin for FSX/P3D, released in March 2014. The same 3d models, the same textures, basically the same approach Aerosoft took for Keflavik, Hamburg, Zürich, Lugano, St. Gallen-Altenrhein, Toulouse, Weeze, Düsseldorf, Anchorage, Nice, Faro, Paderborn (have I forgotten one?) -- all are FSX conversions, with similar pros and cons. In contrast, Amsterdam and Mykonos are specificially made for X-Plane (and this is because their developers are from the X-Plane community). and the next one will be Manchester.
  15. I agree that the area around EHAM is a bit problematic, but in my experience it is more all the small water areas that can have a bad influence on FPS if you have reflections on. However, the airport itself is very intense -- its level of detail is partly insane, for example you have 3D modelling _inside_ buildings. This is, for older computers, hard to handle. (It was even worse in the initial release, but an update made it better after a while). I also want to emphasize that EHAM is NOT based on FSX material. It has nothing do to with Aerosoft's FSX EHAM, but was developed by a completely different developer (XYZ Visuals, who formerly developed the X-Plane freeware for EHSB Soesterberg (Camp New Amsterdam). EHSB and EHAM partly share the same objects).
  16. I did not have yet the possibility to have a look at Dublin by myself, but I don't believe it will have a performance as bad as EHAM, mainly because I suspect it do be similar to the other scenceries Aerosoft converted from FSX, which run all okay performance-wise. (EHAM, like Mykonos, was not a conversion, but X-Plane exclusive, and maybe a bit overdone in the modelling department -- it has very very detailed 3D objects and textures). I expect Dublin to be comparable to Anchorage in terms of performance.
  17. Interesting. Never noticed that issue.
  18. Cool solution, but takes a lot more time than simply executing the bash script shown: 1. Save the bash script in a text file (name it as you like, e.g. "bumpy.sh"; you can also download it from the attachment of this post, but change the ending from .txt to .sh after download) 2. Move that text file into the folder where all your .pol files are. 3. Open a terminal / console and go into this folder. 4. Type: "sh bumpy.sh" (or "bash bumpy.sh", if just "sh" does not work) 5. Done. On Linux and MacOS, this works out of the box. On Windows, you will need to install win-bash before executing the script, because the windows terminal has a different syntax than bash. Edit: The script also has the advantage to be adjustable easily for other use cases -- whenever you need to simply add one line of text to a bunch of files. For example, I used it just some minutes ago for adding "gritty detail" feature to photo scenery. Edit 2: But I have to admit that the texture & WED solution by jiggyb2 is more precise, because you place the surface only on the places you choose in WED. The script simply forces everything to be asphalt, even where you would see grass. So don't use it where you have grass or dirt runways. bumpy.txt
  19. I agree. You said you are returning to X-Plane after a long time. In that time, X-Plane got 64 bit, and the Carenado aircraft were updated accordingly. The propeller artifacts you mention were seen when Carenado 32 bit aircraft were used in 64 bit X-Plane. Download your C172 again from where you purchased it.
  20. The sliders in the SMP settings window control the size of the clouds drawn by SkyMaxx. Their size -- not their number. So even if the clouds are small, the clouds are still there. EFASS should have nothing to do with that.
  21. Well, the plugin itself is finished, as far as I know. It works and changes textures fine. Only problem is that there's somebody needed to create the textures. John Spahn (SkyMaxx) has once started to develop seasonal graphics, but I guess this project is on hold (since I did not read about it for quite a while now).
