Question for upcoming aircraft developers
Leen de Jager replied to Xflyboy2's topic in General Discussion
This is what I like about forums. ( during times my rig is down and I am in the internet-cafe) Reading this all it leads to the conclusion the initial poster on this topic was right from the start. This all should have been handled by the vendor and publishers in a better way. A warning in advance nothing more nothing less. The same time we have four pages to waist our time on, time we could have spent enjoying our sim. Probably I am wrong ,neverteheless its the feeling I get. Do not get me wrong I take all the aswers serious, neverteheless its to much fuzz about a simple issue in my opinion.. Nothing wrong with Gizmo and just a silly mistake in presenting a product. I think and expect this not to happen again. Jack wrote; I have added a note on the Q400s product page that serves to inform our customers of the nag screen before purchase. This hopefully will minimize incidents like this one. Perhaps setting up a, "what is Gizmo", page on my site will help as well. Thanks Jack , please do. Cheers Leen de Jager -
Question for upcoming aircraft developers
Leen de Jager replied to Xflyboy2's topic in General Discussion
In my opinion a product like a sim add-on should work as expected , showing screens of the product at the shop, showing the product without the popping up stuff creates that expectation. The product shown is the product a customer expects to get. If you buy a car and there is a sticker on the windscreen in front of you ,wich only can be removed after paying another thousand dollars , that would be the same as whats happening here. OK you may be able to drive the car but it is quiet abnormal. IF the car was showed in the showroom having that sticker with the remove-price on it it would be another case. This plane is in the showroom whithout the sticker I assume , so it has to be deliverd without it. Gizmo is worth every penny and even more, that however is not the discussion. Leen de Jager -
Shameful conduct & censorship
Leen de Jager replied to He who is not welcome!'s topic in General Discussion
Please guys.........stop this. I am also in for a laugh ,so, thank you. On the other hand , I am administrator on several flightsim-forums and I must frankly say this does not happen there. A forum like this is really not the place to make a fight about things which should be handled on a vendors-forum or by mail. This really needs a lock. This needed a lock from post one. Fantastic, really I mean it. OK this is not serious flightsim stuff. Nevertheless I would buy its if I was a grandfather , just to amuse the kids. I can hear the kids ask " Grand, can we play with the scary bird?" Ohh yes I would buy it. Leen de Jager

Some years ago I got interested in X-Plane and these days its my favorit sim. I am happy to see airplanes for X-Plane improve so rapidly and I am convinced we can expect them to improve much more. The X-Plane market however is not quiet as big as the MSFS market wich makes it hard to invest in developments. Higher aircraft-prices like the CRJ by Rollon are quiet new in the X-Plane community and I expect the prices for X-Plane aircraft to stay on a much higer level in future. Most planes for X-Plane have been made by only one or two people. Planes sold for MSFS are mostly made by complete teams of sometimes ten or more guys. Now I am just speaking about planes , but I can imagine "payware" skins (texturesets) will be available for X-Plane too. Probably a strange phenomena for X-Plane folks , in MSFS-world its quiet normal buying an airliner for 65 dollars or more and buying a complete set of of "liveries" for another 65 dollars or so. In this case we are not speaking of a team of aircraft-builders we are talking about a team of eight professional texture-artists within one company, making commercial paints only. Selling skins can be real profitable bizz. There will be a time (shortly ? !) this will be normal in X-Plane-world as well. Leen de Jager (quality cotroller/technical advisor at McPhatstudios)

it is the only fully-3D Skyhawk for X-Plane at the moment. Yes I fully agree. Nevertheless I could imagine a plane created by guys like you having excellent flightmodels , having looks like planes by Xavier Rollon and having skins made by real texture-artists. We need joint ventures. The moment that happens we reach the level........ wich will be standard next decades. Being "the only fully-3D Skyhawk for X-Plane at the moment" is`nt really the arguement to put a price tag on it. I am not a modeller , I have no idea of flight models. (I really know something about painting, though) Imagine I made an Antoinette for X-Plane, looking horrible, flying like a dead duck. Having made the first and only Antoinette ( maybe it already exists , just giving an example) for X-Plane would not be justifying putting a price-tag on it. Thats al I am saying.( keep in mind I am spoiled already) Regards Leen de Jager

Mid7night wrote: While Leen de Jager may be angered by the lack of visual-shine; I myself get a little heated when people minimize the flight simulation aspects of X-Plane over graphic niceties! I use X-Plane at work to simulate and iterate thru aircraft configurations on a daily basis, so in my opinion the "real" power of X-Plane is its flightmodel capabilities. That may not be YOUR opinion, and that's great - we use the same tool for different things. But presuming that everyone wants what you do is a little naive. Mid7night is right when he says "presuming that everyone wants what you do is a little naive" Thats not what I am doing. I am just saying these days models can have good and realistic looks AS WELL. I am certainly not minimizing the flight simulation aspects, absolutely not. In fact they are the most important. On the other hand these days we have the means to have excellent flight models AND the same time excellent looks. Being able to walk and to speak/sing is normal, someone missing one of the capeabilities is disabled. A contemporary flightsim-airplane should have a good flightmodel and have good looks the same time. Nowadays a model missing one of the two is more or less disabled. It might be a good singer or a happy pedestrian , not a singing happy pedestrian. As I said before I am spoiled , within a year 80% of the X-Plane community will be,within a few years more practicly everyone. I am commercially involved in flightsim , I recognise the pattern. http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=290619945&mt=8 Is it possible they only made a Citation for the I-Phone? That would be an answer to my question. Its a bit confusing. Leen
-
On the X-Plane website I see this : What's New in Version 9.694 New biz-jet: We have added the Citation CJ-1! This is a nice little jet that is a step up in size from the Eclipse. My current version is 9.7. I cannot find the Citation. Any clue? Regards Leen de Jager

Should you buy it? If extreme visual detail and complete systems modelling is what is most important to you, then this probably isn't the perfect buy for you. If accurate and interesting flight models are important to you (and then you'll love this aircraft. I've been repeatedly disappointed by some pay-ware flight models in recent times, such that I don't use them much. This one is a refreshing return to what X-plane is all about, and an aircraft I keep coming back to fly again! Hmmm......strange way of presentation a review. Looks like merely advertising to me. The part I qouted above really makes me a bit angry. If we want extreme visual detail and complete systems modelling we should not buy the model. If accurate and interesting flight models is we want we should buy this model. Hey guys we are living in 2011 and there are airplanes for X-Plane having them both. Stating , "X-Plane is after all, a FLIGHT simulator!" , please give me a break. X-Plane is a contemporary flightsimulator wich is capable of performing excellent with contemporary models having both features. Planes like this Skyhawk are very nice to fly on an older rig for having nostalgic moments. I really would fancy it as freeware , I am afriad the times models like this could proudly wear the label payware is gone, as I stated earlier at this topic. A week ago I wrote on the Org forum: Very nice. But ,why says the picture on the link to this download "Free" while this is actually payware. I was supported by various other people, nevertheless the plane is still being advertised as "FREE" Clicking the link we enter the shop and we see the price. Now a week later nothing changed. If the "FREE" sign is so hard to remove , they should consider removing the price-tag. Leen de Jager

Sorry I did not want to offend you personally. Nevertheless I do not think this is the way and the place to express your personal feelings. I was not only referring to this post I was also thinking of the post about the Saab. In other words I think these kind of posts should be discussed. At least a discussion should be possible and thats what I was after. I really did not expect everyone to agree, thats obvious. Offending people was really not my intention. As I said before , just my thoughts and my apologies to those who feel offended. Leen

As I said " just my 2 cts" expressing my personal feelings. In my opnion compassion is fine , compassion for entertainment on a forum...........please NO.

Some weeks ago I was surprised seeing a post called " Saab 340 Crash in Argentina " Now there is a post called "2 years ago" memorising the fact its two years ago an Air France airliner crashed. Forgive me for saying , this is a flightsimulator forum and although this is the "General discussion" part I really think this kind of posts are no real positive contribution to it. Aircraft accidents are terrible lets be clear about that. On the other hand I do not think it makes sense to memorize every accident. ( for the sake of posting alone ?? ) Reading reactions of respect and condolances on such "non posts" gives me a very unconfortable feeling. Just my 2 cts. Leen de Jager

This is a nice plane , nevertheless it should be freeware. Not so long ago many planes like this one, were offered as payware and the over-all quality of aircraft available for X-Plane was likewise this one ( many worse). When I came over from MSFS I was surprised seeing the " X-Plane payware" ,having a quality wich could not even reach the level of acceptable freeware for MSFS , being offered as serious payware. The first planes I bought for X-Plane were big disappointments. Coming from the MSFS world I was spoiled I must admit. Things changed dramaticly and nowadays there are aircraft for X-Plane available having the quality of the best MSFS add-ons or even better. The result of this all will be a decreasing amount of simple payware planes offered. In no time we all will be spoiled and freeware-quality add-ons will be freeware only. Just my two cents. Introducing my X-Plane repaints page.

OK thats fine, it was my intention to show planes wearing my skins, not frozen-frogs. There is an explanation for this phenonema. I have really no idea why,but ImageShack wants people in "some" countries to subscribe for "ImageShack" first. Google-ing "Frozen Frogs" gave the answer. Rewriting my index-file and bringing my pictures to one of my personal webhosts solved the problem. If "ImageShack" continues this absurd policy probably no-one will remember "ImageShack" within a few years. My first experience with "ImageShack" turned out to be a disappointing one. John Glanville`s Mooney livries Package1 released
Leen de Jager posted a topic in General Discussion
John Glanville made us a fantastic fleet of Mooney liveries for the Carenado Mooney for Microsoft Flightsimulator. All these paints are made using the default "blanks" wich came with the model. My "paint-pal" John Glanville gave me permission to use his textures from the MSFS skins and create skinsets for the Carenado Mooney for X-Plane. Herewith John Glanville`s Mooney Package vol. 1 ( three liveries ) Two volumes to follow shortly. Installation: Just unzip the contents of Glanville_Mooney_package_1.ZIP into your Mooney liveries folder. These repaints are FREEware and should remain so! Exterior textures: John Glanville Added interior-details, light-files and conversion: Leen de Jager Available at X-Plane.org (freeware) Enjoy. Thanks for your kind words Goran. Last months I have been working on an Robin project (upgrading), wich will be published shortly. Nex weeks I will be working om some stuff involving "that other Robin", but more in a just experimental way. Apart from these things I have to do quality control (QC) for McPhatStudios and do research for McPhatStudios as well. Being a repainter I am not the productive type. Apart from being involved with many paints being done by other painters ,I just publish two or three paints a year myself. Whats more important I am just in love with the sparrows (GA) A Saab is way to big for me, I even cannot afford the paint. Regards Leen
