Hello All I have updated to the latest beta 10.04 and I am having a problem with the rudder control. My rudder axis is definitely set correctly on the joystick menu, and the rudder works fine until the takeoff run. I have assigned a button to toggle the nose wheel steering, so the rudder and not the nosewheel steers the aircraft on the takeoff run. This all worked fine before this update, but now when I toggle the nosewheel the rudder axis puts the left and right toe brakes on as well as applying rudder and therefore things are uncontrollable. The beta release notes say that the left/right toe brakes should work if not assigned to a joystick axis. My joystick axis is assigned to the rudder. So I was just wondering if anybody else was experiencing this? I will file a bug report if others are experiencing this, but please feel free to tell me if my set-up is wrong. Many thanks Simon

I tried enabling V-Sync and it is smooth to start with but as soon as the framerate goes below 60 it gets lower and lower. Pretty much as Ben explained in the Blog. Simon

Thanks for the reply Goran. Okay that is no problem at all, I just thought it strange that it works okay in XP10 then all of a sudden doesn't. I look forward to the update to the Duchess to make it compatible with XP10. In the meantime I am looking forward to the DC-3, it looks absolutely marvellous. Cheers Simon

Hi Larry Having read the Developer Blog regrding vsync I don't think it would be the best idea to enable it. As you say my refresh rate is 60Hz and from my understanding the problem is, when enabled if the FPS goes below 60 then you framerate is effectively halved to 30 FPS becuase a frame wouldn't have been rendered in its entirety and therefore would need to be drawn on the nest render. I may give it a try and I'll let you know what happened. Cheers Simon

Hi Goran I'm having a bit of a strange situation suddenly in the Duchess in that when I advance the throttle to maximum on takeoff the prop RPM only reaches 2250 with MP of 27. This is making it very difficult to get airborne but when I do the RPM rises gradually to 2700 as should be, can you shed some light on this? This is in XP10 and I know you are planning to do an update for the Duchess for the new platform as you told me in answer to my previous post, I was just wondering if there is anything you can suggest in the meantime? Many thanks Simon

I have been looking at some of the new scenery offerings(especially NZCH by Chris - excellent work), and posted screen shots and maybe I was being a little unfair regarding the HDR lighting. The floodlighting at the airports looks very good, still think the roads look a little strange with the pitch black sections between the lights. Maybe this is because I am not setting things up right for HDR which is why I was hoping somebody could confirm for me the correct way to do so? Any help/suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks Simon

I am wondering if anyone can help regarding setting up a nVidia graphics card for HDR effects? Without HDR I set the nVidia control panel to application controlled and set in the sim as is recommended and this is fine with good framerate. I do also have nVidia Inspector which obviously has a lot more settings than the nVidia control panel, included in it are settings for FXAA. Do I still leave the card as application controlled and just set HDR FXAA in the sim? When I do this the framerate drops by quite a lot, which from other users is to be expected to a degree, but I feel it also looks really poor. The anti-aliasing is almost non-existent and to me I feel the effect of the light coming from the light source and displaying a ring of light on the surface below is very unrealistic. When flying at night in the vicinity of towns and cities there is a halo of light over the whole area and you can see the individual lights, but all the lights add to this halo effect over whole town/city, and you don't see indivdual light spots on the ground. Another thing which looks wrong to me is the light facades on one side of all the buildings at night, they just don't show up like this in the real world. I hope somebody can help confirm I am setting things up correctly, and if not help me to see X-Plane in HDR better. I'll be interested to hear other peoples opinions on the night lighting. Regards Simon

Hi All I have been doing a fair bit of flying in the Bonanza, and it is really good, I agree with you Ola very good on descent and landing. I do find it rather over-sensitive to cross-wind on the ground, full rudder hardly holding the centreline on takeoff. Also it is strange that you don't have to trim the ailerons that much, then all of a sudden it starts to bank and no matter how much trim I apply I can't stop it banking. This may be due to the differential in the fuel tanks, this gives me the cue to change to the other tank, but it seems a little over-done to me. Any real world pilots view here would be most welcome. I have over the last day or so gone back to the Duchess and the Mu-2 to compare them with my relatively new experience with the Bonanza, and I have to say the Duchess and the Mu-2 are in my opinion that bit more on the money, they just feel better. Also they give me about 5-10 fps more than the Bonanza which is a big factor with XP10. As I said before it will be good when the developers of these aircraft can up-date these aircraft to XP10, and take advantage of what the new platform offers(I am really looking forward to Tom's impending upgrade for the Mu-2). Cheers Simon

Thank you everyone for your valuable advice. I went ahead and purchased the Bonanza and I am very pleased with it. You nearly swayed me Larry as regards Tom's Falco, but I think I will wait and see what improvements are made before taking the plunge on that one, although it looks very good as is. It will be good to see the developers making improvements to the aircraft in XP10 when things stabilise, and even better when new XP10 aircraft start to be released. Kind regards Simon

Hi I am contemplating buying the Carenado Bonanza and I wanted to know people's opinion of this aircraft in XP10? I have the LES Duchess and the X-Scenery MU-2 which are both excellent in my opinion. Obviously eagerly awaiting the new version of Tom's MU-2. I want a really good single GA aircraft and I have heard good things about the Bonanza, I just want confirmation that it is okay in version 10, or if anyone has any other suggestions for a really good single GA. Many thanks Simon

Hi larjeet I have AA and AF set to application controlled in nVidia control panel and set it through X-Plane rendering, do you set any FXAA settings on your graphics card control panel? Thanks Simon
-
Hi larjeet I have filed a bug report on it today, so I will wait and see what comes of it. I don't fly with HDR on because I can't get it to look right, and it causes such a frame hit. What AA setting do you use FXAA? Cheers Simon
-
No
-
I run AA and AF at 4x which gives good results apart from this. I have tried both higher and it doesn't fix the problem and doesn't really enhance the visuals any more than both on 4x to justify the hit in performance. I will see what others post and then maybe file a bug report. Thanks Simon

Just wondering if anyone has seen this strange phenomenom in XP 10. When flying in areas with fields I see a strange flickering caused by dashed lines sort of moving between the fields. One area I have seen this is around Sacramento(KSMF), I have attached a screen capture to try and show this. Has anybody else witnessed this, and do you think it is a graphics driver issue? I am presently using the latest Beta driver from nVidia 290.53, which apart from this seems very good. Cheers Simon
-
Okay Goran, many thanks for confirming that. Looking forward to it.
-
Hi Goran I hope you are well. Just a quick question regarding the Duchess in XP 10, I have upgraded the airfoil as needed for XP10, do your changes in planemaker still need to be done in XP 10 as per your upgrade(in9.xx) or will you do a new upgrade for the new version when things settle down? Regards Simon

What on earth have Laminar done with the clouds for betas 9 and 10? With the three rendering settings for the clouds I had got a really good looking cloud effect after much tweaking with the three settings. Now we can only set the first setting and the clouds look absolutely terrible, you try turning this setting up and performance is dreadful and they still look bad! I do hope this is just temporary because the sim is unusable like this. They are lauding the new clouds as one of the big improvements, which they were, and then they do this. I know we are in early beta/optimisation stage so hopefully they are just trying something and will revert to the original set-up as soon as possible. What do others think? Simon

Hi Kesomir You say to make sure it is installed outside of the 'Program Files', I have 64 bit version of Vista and because XP is a 32 bit program I have it installed in the /Program Files(x86) is this correct? I used to have it installed in it's own directory(XP9 anyway), but when I was running the demo of XP10 I read something about putting it in /Program Files(x86), so I moved it to there and performance increased somewhat. Anybody else have any opinions on this? Simon
-
Hi John Don't think it is hardware related because the program is freezing not my system. I just wanted to see if anyone on these forums had witnessed it as some people at the Org have reported it. Simon
-
I have been running X-Plane 10 with the latest Beta and if I fly for any length of time the program just freezes. The only way to get out of it is to end the process with the Task Manager. I was just wondering if anyone else was having these problems? Simon
-
That's great Tom, many thanks for that. Have a good Christmas. All the best, Simon
-
Many thanks for that Tom. Any idea on the problem I seem to be having with the altimeter? Thanks Simon
-
What I mean is, the rotating needle showing you passing the 100's of feet seems to be behind the instrument dial face, and can only be seen rotating through the windows that show the digital altitude and barometric pressures. It's as if there is some kind of hierarchy drawing issue and the needle indicator is placed behind the altimeter face. Simon

Hi Tom Thanks for confirming there may be some issues with the trim in XP10. The MU-2 is still easily flyable now in XP10, and I am looking forward to the 1.5 update when you release it. All the best, Simon
