About Me
Aerodromes by OMAR is the moniker for aviation enthusiast + 3D artist Omar Masroor.
Ever since primary school, Masroor was fascinated by aviation and used to play with airport playsets and draw aircraft and airports in his sketchbook.
In 2006, he was gifted a copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX), which became his first foray into the world of amateur flight simulation.
In 2007, at the age of thirteen, he began developing his home airport of Karachi for FSX. Unfortunately, the main Gmax file became corrupted and the project was abandoned.
In 2014, while studying at university, Masroor decided to enter the commercial flight simulation add-on market as a way to earn some extra money for his studies.
In 2015, his first commercial add-on — Airport Southwest Florida Intl for X-Plane 10 — was published by German publisher Aerosoft GmbH.
In 2016, Masroor decided to take a gap year from his studies to develop Airport Dallas/Fort Worth Intl for X-Plane, which was published by Aerosoft in 2017.
Since then, Masroor has worked on numerous airport projects for Aerosoft, both from home and from Aerosoft's offices in Büren, Germany.
In 2019, he announced Dubai Next-Gen, a new airport project that uses Physically Based Rendering and is targeted at the next generation of flight simulators after X-Plane 11.
In 2020, the first development update for Dubai Next-Gen was published, and the name of the YouTube channel was changed from 'Airports for X-Plane' to 'Aerodromes by OMAR' to signify that current and future projects would no longer be exclusively for X-Plane.
