I got the job interview within two hours of submitting my application material, so I'm back to X-Plane development for now (also finished my work for the upcoming week of uni, reading break is over way too fast... that's what happens when you're enjoying basking in the sun of the Northern Cascade mountains for four days doing nothing). First of all, let me say that splitting up orthophotos manually from FSX to X-Plane 10 4096 size is a pain in the ass. FSX, to my knowledge, allows any size of image, as my source imagery sent by my partner is over 28000 pixels each side. If I wished to waste my time writing a unix script I could, but doing it by hand is much more fulfilling. So is listening to Jack Johnson while building Hawaii. EDIT: PHOTO MISSING And then I get to type those coordinates into WED, because I'm obsessed with doing things the most inefficient and difficult way. At least there aren't bugs in doing things manually, you don't have to sift through your script finding problems.

Any details...? Examples...? Even a one minute loop of one of the sounds yet? I'm looking forward to it as it's one of my favourite planes, but can you give some info? Good luck
-
Sorry folks... it looks like there won't exactly be an X-Plane binge over this break. I'm on a rampage of applying for summer jobs.
-
Lanai will be seriously delayed again due to the fact that cliffs suck in X-Plane and moving cliffs and keeping them looking good in orthophotos is seriously difficult.

Ok... I gave the utility a shot, and I now have a migraine. Between poorly translated instructions and errors that shouldn't be happening according to what I am doing, as well as the program constantly outputting the "Memory Error" every single time and crashing, I have decided that it simply is not worth it at this point. I'm going to direct all my work time on Lanai and KBLI from now on. Kahoolawe has been shelved as I see no further room for improvement until this utility functional beyond opening and crashing.

Hey everyone, Excuse time: I'm in university. I have barely any time to screw around with something as time consuming as X-Plane beyond what I absolutely have to do for Hawaii Photoreal and another project behind the scenes. Thing that the excuse is for: I just found this. Visual mesh editor. No idea if I will be able to even make it work, but on Kahoolawe and Lanai there are a few places where the coastline is wonky or there is a perfectly vertical cliff (which as you guys know looks bloody awful in X-Plane 10). So, I'm going to mess with Kahoolawe soon (orthos on Lanai have now been split and aligned, I'd post screenshots but I have a chemistry lab write-up to do and a biology midterm this week). Anyways, this will be a project for next week... READING BREAK!!! I am travelling a bit over the break so it won't all be X-Plane (much to my family and girlfriend's relief), but I will try to put in some serious time and maybe even pump out Lanai before March. At least the next version of Kahoolawe and the next version of Molokini will be released at the end of reading break if said mesh editor works. cheers

tl;dr Version: Here's a quick one: I have recently dealt with people who claimed that owning a copy of Google Earth Pro (until recently, $399/yr) would give you the rights to export and reproduce the imagery, in our cases for scenery development. However, upon reading the Google Earth Pro License I can find no such information. As far as I can tell, the limitations imposed by using Google Earth Pro are equal to those imposed by using the free version; the only difference being a few features not available in the free version. If anyone can dissect the Legalese of the license and extract a piece of evidence pertaining to the redistribution rights of licensees, please post here with a direct quote of the Terms of Use. For the first time, I'm not trying to nail someone with this. No, I'm not in the process of trying to prove that someone has created illegal scenery. I'm done caring about that. I'd simply like to understand the terms of use. Thanks ahead of time to anyone who can help with this matter. But more in depth: Also, in the Google Earth Pro addendum: I enjoy reading this stuff, however this was one of those licenses that felt like a lot of circular reasoning was used and I often lost track of what I was even thinking at the time. Any help is appreciated

UHD Mesh Scenery v1 for X-Plane 10 released
Colin S replied to alpilotx's topic in General Discussion
One word: wow Also another two words: thank you -
There must be some exception, considering the number of small-time, yet commercial, film-makers using drones nowadays.
-
Sorry, excuse my stupid... what is this exactly?
-
Ok I lied... here is a shot of Lanai, but note that as usual, as this is in the image alignment/coastline correction phase of development, all orthophotos are in 1/6th resolution. Final resolution will be 1m/px for the entire island, 0.5m/px for areas of interest (helipads, airports, etc).

Nothing fancy... took off from Pemberton, flew over Tundra Lake in the Stein Valley area, and landed at the Harrison Lake airstrip. Apparently the Lillooet River is flooded. I have to hand it to Andras, this scenery is amazing. HD Mesh V3 makes Canada look perfect. I have never seen X-Plane look this beautiful. Thank you for your hard work! Please take note that this is literally my first complete flight in over a year. Decided to do some X-Plane in a break from Chemistry, and decided that I also needed a break from developing Hawaii Photoreal; I've earned this little flight. I'd like to add that I couldn't believe this screenshot. This isn't even orthophoto scenery. This is just HDMesh V3 and default textures. Congratulations to the amazing AlpilotX for his perfect work.

For those of you who aren't aware, Molokini will be released as a standalone package either tomorrow or Monday (I'm in North America). This particular one is my first ever project where I built an object completely from scratch and textured it myself. That wasn't that hard, but lining up a geological formation with the finickyness of SketchUp was the headache. Here is a little preview of that...
-
Sorry guys. I've decided I need to model Molokini since it doesn't exist in X-Plane. Perhaps another week of delay before the update. But you will now definitely want to grab this piece of awesome. Anyways, here are the final updates to Kahoolawe: Reefs and a dulled down version of the imagery for those who want a less psychedelic flying experience! EDIT: No Molokini until the final update, V1.3

I'm not dropping calculus for X-Plane, I would never put anything (other than my family and health) ahead of university. Just as clarification to those who are going "Damn young people and their crazy priorities" I am enrolled in sciences because both my parents are doctors and it's essentially what they wanted me to do and I only just recently built up the will to tell them that I didn't want to pursue sciences. I am heading for a degree in geography with a possible minor in biology (which is offered through arts at Thompson Rivers). My final goal in life is to become a high school or elementary school teacher by first being an overseas English Second Language teacher. I know, what kind of wack-job teenager aspires to be an elementary school teacher? Basically, at my university, Geography does not require calculus and staying in the course will make me do alright in all of my courses instead of exceptionally, as I would have to devote close to half my study time focused on calculus, which I don't really care about. While I love science, it's not something I want to have as a career - I want to spend my life teaching young people in as creative and fun a way as possible. And calculus is not in the realm of what you have to teach 10-year-old children. Perhaps I'm just insane. Okay: I will remove "perhaps" from that sentence.

Hi everyone, This project is a side project now, as I have taken on the responsibility of being in charge of the X-Plane end of Hawaii Photoreal. I'm still hoping to get it done, but it's not number one on my priorities list any more... sorry guys. I may put a couple of hours into the terminal model in SketchUp this weekend to celebrate the release of Kahoolawe. Hope the new year is treating you all well.
-
Hi all! I am two weeks overdue for the release of Kahoolawe - it will be on Sunday, I'm about 99% done the work, I just need to rip out the useless stuff and compress the heck out of it and I'll release it. Lanai is in the works, but in ghost mode... I may release one or two screenies of the airport when it comes around, but other than that, no previews until I am ready for the first release! PS: As I am transferring at the end of semester, I have dropped calculus from my schedule... more time for X-Plane.

The layers in the grand canyon are truly spectacular... it demonstrates that X-Plane isn't really lacking in its versatility, only in how hard people are willing to push it at this point. Would there be a way to determine what mesh was "important" and which was not (like in monument valley, where you have those spires and then hundreds of square miles of flat) so as not to push the older computer too far past the melting point? Amazing work, Andras. I can't say any other X-Plane work compares to what you are up to.
-
Have you tried opening the object using WED yet?
-
A brief update on how Kahoolawe will look with the much delayed update (I'm waiting another week because I found a good resource of a imagery for the coral reefs surrounding the island). I still have to fix the coastline to match HD Mesh 3.

Ben, you already successfully made your point, I won't be publishing Hawaii Photoreal through X-Pilot considering that I don't want people to be scared of disrespect when posting issues for support. As for the Chris (yes, THE Chris): Win7 64-Bit Home Premium (6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601) i5-4670K @ 3.40GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780/Intel HD Graphics 4600 Driver Version 347.09 VRAM 3072MB Installed Physical Memory 16.0GB Rendering Option: Anything, but here they are at my complaint point: Full Screen 1920x1080 Texture Resolution: Extreme No Objects, Trees, Roads. Reflection at default HDR Enabled But that's kind of irrelevant since I have tried it with dozens of rendering options since I bought the machine. Log.txt - I have omitted the gargantuan section of airport sign conflicts from the default libraryATC audio initialized. And before you go telling me that my specs are not exactly what I listed up there, like I said, I've changed them bit by bit to see if anything helps. What is this flickering issue that you mentioned? Thanks for your patience Chris, always a great help.

Running Win7 64-bit Home Premium. I will add the other stuff to this post tomorrow morning when I'm not in fear of waking up my roommate (on my CrapBook). You need to understand that computers are like cars to me: I understand how the engine works, but no idea how the transmission works, and I'm extremely skilled at driving but if it broke down I would have no idea what to do. Just because I'm a loser doesn't automatically qualify me as a geek

Sarcasm? Rudeness? Hostility? All this from a reasonably experienced member of the community? Fail. I didn't say I was looking for a problem with X-Plane. This is a problem with the computer in general and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
-
I believe I told you everything. There is nothing I can provide. No crash. No errors in the log. Default 172. A community doesn't just slam everyone who comes looking for help. As I said, if anyone has ever experienced something like this, I'm mostly looking for any recurring problems known with the GTX780. Looks like Lanai won't released through X-Pilot.
