[SOLVED] Turning to Mach mode by accident and it's consequences
arb65912 replied to arb65912's topic in Canadair CRJ-200
Hi Cameron, I did not know that it was X-Plane bug but since it messes up flying CRJ2. In this case it would be great to add a note about X-Plane bug in the release notes and maybe email that tells about the update. Unless it is already stated in the release notes. As I said, it would save time and frustration for pilots, that is all I meant. Cheers, AJ -
Hi Cameron and Javier, It is not a criticism at all but rather a intention to avoid frustration and time waste for those who might not know about it. After recent Keith's response about CRJ2 SPEED mode, I make things work fine and was very happy to enjoy the newest release of the plane 1.5.2 , I believe. Last night I received email to update CL30 by DDen whic I did. I flew the plane , all good. Then I went back to CRJ2 to make my flight .... boom, not only SPEED mode does not work, I can not make the autopilot to strat flying the plane. When I try to set the SPEED to any value using SPEED know, the value shows momentarily and then it is set to 0, no matter what I do, that probably initiates the autopilot problem. I was really mad, I did not touch CRJ2 at all, I just installed update to a different plane and CRJ2 got messed up. I think anybody would get mad. THEN, it stroke me, I have read somewhere in the forums that there is a bug in CRJ2 that I think will be fixed in the future releases, I think it was Cessna729 showing the workaround for this problem. When you fly the plane using Mach mode, exit the plane still in Mach mode and then load CRJ2 , you might experience the problem I described above. I think that since it was nit just me and it was confirmed by others , if the problem is not going to be fixed, I strongly recommend to add a note about it in the release notes and maybe email that tells about the update. It would definitely save a lot of frustration and time for guys like me who would not knowingly enter Mach mode and then try to fly CRJ2. Other than that, I want to say thank you again for both excellent product , CRJ2 and JS32, the best planes in my opinion for X-Plane so far. Thank you for reading. Cheers, AJ

Thank you very much, Intrance. I think , NOW I am good as far as pressure in JS32. Cheers, AJ
-
Thank you very much, Intrance, I think I pretty much understand now what is going on. One last question ( I know, it supposed to be the last one in previous reply, sorry ) Picking the lowest option for cabin altitude is dictated by passenger comfort? The higher the cabin altitude, the lower the pressure so we just do not want the passengers to experience like they were hiking in the mountains, correct? Cheers, AJ
-
Hi Intrance, I think, I am finally getting the idea, I think.... This is how I understand it, please let me know if I am wrong. 1.Pressure decreases with altitude and a particular altitude has corresponding pressure as on the chart you attached. 2. There is a number not be be exceeded as far as maximum differential pressure which is 5.5 psi. 3. Since while climbing , the outside pressure will decrease ,we need to adjust the cabin pressure so the maximum differential pressure stays in 0.0 - 5.5 psi. Assuming that above statement are correct, I would do following steps to set my cabin altitude: I will be flying at FL250: A. I would take the level I will be flying at , for this example 25,000 which would give outside pressure of 5.45 psi. B. Since the range of the cabin altitude is 1000-8000, if I set cabin pressure to 8000 , corresponding pressure is 10.91 and resulting differential pressure is 10.91-5.45 = 5.46 psi which is still in the allowed maximum differential pressure range 0.0 - 5.5 psi. Now I want to fly at 15,000' A. I would take the level I will be flying at , for this example 15,000 which would give outside pressure of 8.29 psi. B . If I set cabin pressure to 8000 with corresponding pressure of 10.91, resulting differential pressure is 10.91-8.29 = 2.62 psi which is in the allowed maximum differential pressure range 0.0 - 5.5 psi. C. If I set cabin pressure to 2000 ( the minimum pressure to keep the allowed maximum differential pressure range 0.0 - 5.5 psi.) , similar calculations will give me 13.66-8.29 = 5.37 psi. Now question for a $1,000,000.... I know now that for the example with 15,000' I can set my cabin pressure between 2000 -8000. How do I know what number between 2000 and 8000 to pick? It is getting much more clear now. Thank you, Intrance, will be waiting for that last answer and leave the subject alone. Cheers, AJ
-
Thank you for the response , Intrance but I still have a question. The upper two gauges are cabin pressure gauges and just show cabin rate of climb/descend, cabin altitude and differential pressure with exterior. My question is about the CABIN PRESSURE CONTROL gauge. With CABIN ALT know we can adjust cabin pressure from 1000 to 10,000 FEET Question 1: On the gauge we can see AIRPLANE ALT. AT MAX DIFF. What that means and how it relates to what we see on the gauge display? Question 2: I want to fly at 20,000' what number do I set on CABIN PRESSURE CONTROL gouge using CABIN ALT knob? I have to admit that the whole subject is still confusing to me, sorry. Cheers, AJ

Apologies for Cameron and Javier

Keith, I know you are reading these forums.... You "saved my life" couple of time since we met .... and you did it AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I made several test for take with CRJ2 this time I had FD ON, SPEED mode on and HD mode ON. The speed is automatically set to 100 in this configuration. I took off, positive rate of climb, gear up, autopilot on at 600 AGL and when I reached the speed I wanted to continue my climb ( around 160-170 KIAS), I hit the Speed Synchronize knob and everything went perfect. I tried several times, at different airports and with engines running as well as from dark and cold, PERFECT!!!! Thank you so very much! Cheers, AJ -
I hope that Javier, Cameron or real life pilot will reply here and explain in more details what gauges show exactly and how to use them. Cheers, AJ

Jimbo, BE33 ....maybe? I know it is a lot of work. I recently narrowed my flying to 3 planes BE33, JS32 and CRJ2. Excellent job, will keep an eye on that thread. Cheers, AJ -

Keith, the only difference between your sequence and mine is that I have HD mode active from the beginning and I activate SPEED mode after engaging autopilot. When I do that I have to pull on the yoke to keep the climb and if I am lucky after a long time ( maybe 30-45 seconds) autopilot starts flying the plane. I thought that with the SPEED mode engaged , plane would automatically either climb if the speed is above the number set on the speed bug or drop the nose first to get to the speed set on the speed bug and then continue climbing at the speed set. I will try maybe tonight to have flight director ON, HD and SPEED mode on and take it from there, rotate, gear up, positive rate, autopilot above 600 AGL and see how that works. What makes me think that it is not me but rather wrong combination of the latest CRJ2 release and latest X-Plane beta 10.20 beta 11 is that in the past ( different beta and previous CRJ2 version) after engaging autopilot and enabling SPEED mode, plane would react immediately and autopilot would fly the plane. I will test again with your sequence and if no luck, I will wait till X-Plane beta becomes a snadard release and CRJ2 is updated accordingly, then if the propbelm stays , I will report it here. Thank you. Cheers, AJ -

Rereading JS32 manual NOW while flying CRJ2 ...

Keith, I will tell you the truth..... with CRJ2 I went page after page and it was not easy but I got to the point I can fly it even on PE. I still can not get the SPEED mode working after take off though, I know exactly what I need to do, synchronize and activate SPEED mode but it just does not want to work. I use VS mode instead and when autopilot starts flying the plane, I switch to SPEED mode. With JS32 ... I was so excited and eager to fly it that I did not read the manual that carefully as in case of CRJ2... I know, my bad .... actually, I did read it , I just ignored it and after I lost these axes few times, I was very mad .... BTW, I do like reading manuals but you know the feeling, I could not resist to start flying it. I am going on PE right now and do same closed traffic practice at ONT. Now you know. Cheers, AJ -

What is the proper way of trimming JS32?
arb65912 replied to arb65912's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Nothing is wrong, left turning and corresponding trimming is caused by torque, try to either lower power setting on take off or use trim you are talking about. I had the same questions at the beginning, there is nothing wrong with the plane, 95% of the times when things go wrong is us, pilots. Cheers, AJ -
Apologies for Cameron and Javier
arb65912 replied to arb65912's topic in British Aerospace Jetstream 32
Thank you for understanding , Cameron. I agree with your opinion on my PM. I know how life can get busy and I absolutely understand the necessity for a break and vacation. After initial "bumps" which was mostly my ignorance, I am one very happy virtual pilot now. Thank you again. I like these support forums because it is a great source of learning things and finding the answers. All good on both ends. Cheers, AJ -
Hi Cameron and Javier. Well, not too many people like admitting making mistakes but I do not mind to do that. In the past I have raised a hell about the control lock and axes loss and was very mad posting because I spent too much time on fiddling around with proper way of exiting X-Plane with control lock in down or up position. After spending some more time experimenting I found out that ( which Cameron and Javier said also in forums and I guess in manual also) there are only 2 things to remember. 1. When you are done flying J32 and want to exit X-plane, leave the controls lock in unlocked position ( DOWN) 2. Or, with the controls lock in locked position ( UP ) , load different plane and then quit X-Plane. It works every time as long as I remember that. So ....... I apologize in public to Cameron and Javier for making unnecessary posts stating incorrect things. JS32 along with CRJ2 are in my opinion the best designs for X-plane so far. Gentlemen, thank you for your patience and an excellent work. I am still upset about Javier ignoring my PM after reading it but I am trying to explain myself that with so many mails and things to do my PM was not important enough to spend Javier's valuable time. Cheers, AJ
