Strange Flickering Clouds

I had to reinstall  SkyMaxx Pro & RWC because of some non pertinent issues I was having. Now my clouds are flickering and looking kind of strange. There are dotted lines now. i realize it's difficult to see the flickering in the pictures.  Any ideas what this might be. They looked great before the reinstall.

What is your cloud/terrain softness setting at? Turning it up might help.

It was set at 488. I just turned up to 700. I'll  let you know what happens.

I put the cloud/terrain softening to the max and I still getting the lines and flickering.

Hiya,

Long shot .............

Try lowering your clouds to 10% in x-plane settings

Then try different cloud area sizes in smp

ps : Another long shot, set AA manually if not already in gpu driver settings

Embarrassed to say not sure what is SMP is or AA? Also when I go into rendering I don't see where I can change the clouds to 10%?

Hiya,

Middle Right Side, cloud Detail is at 45% drop that to 10%

AA = Anti Aliasing, that's in your nvidia driver settings/panel somewhere, set it in there to match your 16x in x-plane pic you just posted above

SMP = SkyMaxx Pro (the cloud programme) so try raising/lowering the cloud are coverage up/down after setting the AA

AA can sometimes make items flash on/off, also in certain games it can glitch and cause lines in things, so for ati especially manually setting/forcing the driver AA into your case a 16x mode can help on lines/block distortion

If non of that works, last resort is to change Solid Stratiform to Sparse Particles, just to test if the solid stratiform change removes the lines

I need sleep, if not fixed i'll have another think when i wakeup

And check here to see how you got on

ps : Goto your account for sky max pro, ignore it saying v3.0 or v3.1 ... Downlaod it again, it will be the latest v3.1.2

That might fix it before trying the AA etc

I now uninstalled RWC to see if all the problems are still there. Doing a test flight from  KBIS to KCPR

I just completed the test flight from KBIS to KCPR without RWC. Not a single problem. What I don't understand is, when I first installed it RWC it worked great for a few days.  So because of getting my computer serviced I had to use a backup copy of X-Plane which included RWC and SkyMaxx Pro from when they were working well in tandem. After reinstalling X-Plane from the backup is when  the RWC started to malfunction. I have uninstalled and reinstalled RWC and SkyMaxx Pro several times. I just reinstalled RWC and it's causing the problems again. Any ideas what may be going on?

Hi Tony,

I did try everything you suggested unfortunately  it didn't provide solution. The last thing I did however was changing the solid stratiform to  sparse particles. That immediately took the lines away. Unfortunately it also takes most of the weather away. You can see the bad weather on the map, hear thunder and see lightening and you're still flying but there aren't  clouds.

Do you use the free plugin for the weather (nooa) ??

But, the setting checked/ticked at the top option for the real-weather-connector is fine for x-planes own weather

If you use nooa then you checl/tick middle option

I am on an ati/amd gpu until i save enough for a nvidia unless things change (i've had both teams gpu's and only probs i've had, and i had it with both flavours !, was the good old, not responding driver error) though on some games/sims i have to force this R9 290x driver to do the AA to take away flickering on objects (thehunter springs to mind)

Gotta take the dogs for a walk, can try something later when you're on etc

I have been using X-planes own weather. I am not sure which drivers and  I am on a MAC. My major question is why did RWC work previously and not now. As I mentioned I am using the lasted SkyMaxx Pro and RWC. I've uninstalled and reinstalled about 15 times. Hopefully Frank or Cameron will jump in here and offer their help. I am working today so won't have a chance to work on this again for a few more hours. You've been a great help providing suggestions that I am just not technical enough to have though about.

Only ever had pc's so no idea about macs at all lol (only that they're darn expensive lol)

Hi Andy,

When you open SMP in the game, on the top part, does it have Version 3.1.2 ?

And see if this alters anything ...........

May take effect only after a reboot of the game/sim, from herein i'll call it a sim lol

Set RWC to the middle option (Always) (ignores x-planesettings) as i say you may need to reboot sim ..........

Then go into x-planes weather option, can't remember here but i think it should still be marked as use the internet etc for realtime etc

Idea is, to get X-Planes weather off from grab real weather from the internet, and RWC to use the middle option out of the three

When those 2 options kick in, X-Planes weather option should be set to the option furthest left (set weatgher uniformly across the whole world) if it's set as that, try to click on the far right option (grab real weather from the net) This should not be changable

I assume you are upto date gpu driver-wise, i know nvidia had a problem with a driver not long back but not using nvidia at the moment i don't know which one it was without googling etc

Perplexing aint it lol

ps : anywhere near Scottsdale ?

pps : Just seems like a graphic arror in my mind, i tried those setting earlier and mine was fine so i can't replicate those lines, and of course not even a nvidia gpu let alone the same model

ppps !! : Can you put up your Mac Model etc  then i can google and see what's inside it

I reinstalled my Apple El Capitan operating System and so far all is working well. Somehow the OS got corrupted. Still doing more testing. But thank you for all your help!
