JBalsa Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 So I took my first shot at making my (first) livery for the Mu-2B 60. I made the images in photoshop, and saved them in the same format that the .psd paint kits were, made a folder, and put the 3 files in the "Objects" folder. When I launch the livery in X-Plane, the default livery appears. Do I have to make a .LIT texture for it? Do I have to change the file format? I noticed in the other folders, there is a file called "thumbs.db" do I need that file for it to work? And what exactly is the thumbs.db file?Fill me in here! :-\ - Thanks! Quote
JGregory Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 A new "livery" should go in the "liveries" folder. Look in that folder and duplicate the same folder/file structure for your new livery. Then in the sim choose Aircraft -> Livery and select your new livery.Hope this helps.Jimps. you can replace the default livery in the objects folder but I wouldn't recommend doing that.So I took my first shot at making my (first) livery for the Mu-2B 60. JBalsa Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 I did a bit more experimenting, and I tried adding the "thumbs.db" file to my custom livery. It made the livery work, but when the .LIT textures kicked in, the livery changed. So obviously I need to make a thumbs.db folder accustomed to my livery in order to make the livery work. Anybody know how to make a thumbs.db file? JGregory, the livery I am talking about is not downloaded, it is one that I am making. Quote
JGregory Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 madjason,The thumbs.db file has nothing to do with the liveries. Your folder structure should be:xscenery MU-2 Marquise 1.1 --> liveries --> "your folder name" --> objects -->and then put the livery files (that you made) in folder "objects" as:FINAL_Empennage_LIT.pngFINAL_Empennage.pngFINAL_fuselage.pngFINAL_Wings.pngThat should be all you need to make it work. if you do not include the _LIT file your night textures will be "unlit" or "black", it's your option. Not sure what you mean by "...is not downloaded". Hope this helps, feel free to ask if you need more assistance.JimI did a bit more experimenting, and I tried adding the "thumbs.db" file to my custom livery. JBalsa Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Well, it seems that when I copy and paste the "thumbs.db" from another livery folder into mine, it makes MY livery work. Without the thumbs.db file in MY livery folder, the livery does not load. It seems that the thumbs.db is actually the .LIT texture. When I load the other livery's thumbs.db into my livery folder, the livery works, but once I turn down the sun, and engage the .LIT textures, the .LIT textures of the default aircraft appear. This DOES NOT happen when I DO NOT have the thumbs.db in MY livery folder. Quote
JGregory Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 madjason,Again, the thumbs.db file has nothing to do with what you are trying to achieve. Check this out:http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/zanswers/98All you need to do is create the appropriate .png files (from your .psd files) and put them in an a folder named "objects", which should be inside another folder (named as you please), which should be inside the "liveries' folder, which should be inside the "xscenery MU-2 Marquise 1.1" folder.Hope this is not too confusing. Please ask if yout have any further questions.Jim Quote
JBalsa Posted April 4, 2009 Author Report Posted April 4, 2009 Well, I will make a .LIT texture along with my livery and see how things go. Thanks for all of your help though! Quote
