Placing objects on object

I'm trying to place some street lights on a modeled bridge , and maybe some cars.

With sketchup I tried the "HARD" option and it didn't work , also with "GROUND" and "HARD DECK" , didn't work.

Am I missing something?

Set MSL in WED.

You'll have to play around with the values by trial and error though. I've done this method a few times to place flags on top of objects.

When creating a custom lights , is it possible to make them "on" only at night like the default lights?
