Mick Hill Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) Hi folks I am getting to grips with the KC-10 using a flight into EGPH which I have made up from waypoints ,NDB's etc. However I ,via the Map facility, have been flying the last 10 Nm into the two runways. The aircraft is set up at 2800 Ft, right on course for the runway. 063 or 243. The Glide slope is activated at 8 Nm,s but when I looked at the Pilots infomation for EGPH ILS approach it stated the approach hight should be 4000 ft. If this is correct and is moddled in the X-Plane Sim then how far out from the airport does the localizer cone reach to. Once I know this then I can tweak my FMC plan to bring me into the last Waypoint, NDB,VOR whatever would be the final track.to intercept the localizer. By the way the scenery into Edinburgh is amazing especially using real weather situation. Mick. Definitely getting there. Imported this pic with KC-10 at 500 Ft + or- but it has not loaded as I expected. Edited January 21, 2014 by Mick Hill Quote
andydckent Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) For runway 24, approaching from the south aircraft are usually vectored from TARTN by air traffic control onto a course heading towards the island of Inch Keith in the Firth of Forth descending all of the way. Just south of the island at an altitude of between 3,500 and 3,000 ft the aircraft usually turn left to intercept the ILS. This is the most common arrival into Edinburgh. You can watch aircraft do it on flightradar24. You may wave at my house directly below about 1 mile before you cross the coast on your way to Inch Keith island. Hope this helps! Mick Hill Posted January 22, 2014 Author Report Posted January 22, 2014 Thanks Andy. I will look this up on the X Plane Map . As yet I am always flying silent as I have not figured out how to contact the local tower or ground. I will run a flight from Leeds Bradford ( my local airport ) into Edinburgh and see how it goes. andydckent Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Hello Mick, ATC in x-plane is next to useless so you'll have to give yourself those vectors unless you're flying on vatsim with good controller coverage. Your route from EGNM would probably be POL (UN601 - this is an airway not a fix) MARGO ESKDO TARTN and then vectored as described above. You'll want to be 26000 or below by MARGO and 18,000 24 miles before TARTN. Have fun! Andy Quote
