Hueyman Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Hello everyone. I've been saving and struggling for more than two years with my old laptop rubbish thing, which I play X-Plane on as well as DCS and other sims. One week ago, I finally succeed to reach a great amount to afford a whole new gear. I should receive everything later this week. Here are the components : -Corsair Enthusiast Series Modular TX850M - Alimentation - 850 W - Semi-modulaire - Certifiée 80 PLUS Bronze- Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme X79 - Carte mère - Socket 2011 - E-ATX- Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 - Radiateur processeur - Ventilateurs 140mm- Intel 520 Series (SSDSC2CW180A310) - SSD 180 Go- LiteOn iHBS112 (IHBS112-115 2) - Lecteur/Graveur Blu-ray -c-- G.Skill TridentX F3-2400C10Q-32GTX (4x8Go, 2400 MHz, DDR3) - Mémoire PC- Cooler Master Storm STRYKER (SGC-5000W-KWN1) - Boitier- Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EZEX - Disque dur 1 To -c-- Asus VG278HE - Écran LED 27" 3D, 144 Hz- Intel Core i7 3970X Extreme Edition - Processeur- GTX Titan AMP! Edition 6GO- Logitech Illuminated Keyboard - Clavier rétroéclairé- Microsoft - Windows 7 Edition Professionnelle 64 Bits SP1- Logitech Speaker System Z906 - Système multimédia de haut-parleurs stéréo 5.1 (Son Surround certifié THX) - 500 Watts (RMS) - Avec télécommande sans-fil - Noir |- Track IR V5 As you can see, this is more or less the most powerful components available today, yet it's not latest ones. I will post pictures of the thing all throighout the built and of course, the most interesting for us, the results in X-Plane 10. Some says the Titan is obsolete because it's CPU limited... that's why I took the most powerful CPU around, some says the I7 3970X will be obsolete because it's GPU limited... that's why I took the Titan AMP ! Edition ( boosted to death, single GPU ) etc etc. So, I really hope to max everything out in X-Plane, DCS World, ArmA III etc with 60+ FPS and have great rendering times in Blender. I'm also doing Computer Assisted Music ( Guitar, Keyboard ... ) this explaining the really great Z906 system, with a M-Audio Fast Track I already use for years. As I'll have a big screen, I thought it would be clever to get the Track IR ( useless with my current 15" laptop screen ) Regarding Hardware, I already have the Thrustmaster Warthog, with the long stick mod ( for better control around all travel ), and Saitek Combat Pedals. 1 Quote
Ntr09 Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Looks pretty good to me, although I'd switch out the WD Caviar Blue drive for a Caviar Black, specifically the WD1002FAEX. You'll get much better performance with it. -NR Quote
coltsr2 Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Looks very good James!...Cant fault that set-up matey!.......But unless your filthy rich, the TITAN isnt that much faster in real terms than the much cheaper GTX 780!.....But after saying that..X-plane 10 is very hungry for video ram......so you may see a slight increase in performance if you do decide to go with the titan, though without someone doing the tests its hard to tell...... if your taking advantage of the titans 6 gig of memory........ie your using a 2560x1600 res monitor or multiple monitors...then the titan will def help assuming your cpu is overclocked! I assume you are overclocking your CPU?...preferably to at least 4.8-5 ghzs to take advantage of the TITAN?...otherwise you may be bottlenecked with the slower cpu at anything less than a 4.6ghz CPU... I use a GTX 670, 30in monitor at 2560x1600 res and a i7 920 DO steeping CPU @ 4.2ghz on air....from my own personal tests i would say if you could get your CPU at 4.8+ ghz and with a GTX 780/TITAN under the hood also then you will be in X-plane heaven.....especially with that moby and huge amount of ram! Keep us posted whatever you decide so we can all see your results.....Good luck, i always get excited whenever i build my next pc upgrade! 1 Quote
Hueyman Posted July 16, 2013 Author Report Posted July 16, 2013 Too late to change guys, all is ordered and is in hands of our winners France postal service... with luck I'll get it next week ;-( Quote
iomagico Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 Too late to change guys, all is ordered and is in hands of our winners France postal service... with luck I'll get it next week ;-(Let me know when you'll set up your rig.I am using a very similar one, Titan equipped, for x-plane 10.22.Would be great to share settings, expecially for stock rendering vs nvidia inspector. Not much of Titan users so far on x-plane. OlaHaldor Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 I'd love to have a CPU like that. I think it would do insane things to X-Plane compared to my i5 quad core. Quote
iomagico Posted July 26, 2013 Report Posted July 26, 2013 I'd love to have a CPU like that. I think it would do insane things to X-Plane compared to my i5 quad core.well....on CPU side I'm a bit far.i7 3770 @ 4500 here, but Titan as GPU and fast 16 GB Ram.What is driving me crazy is tuning x-plane with my one screen resolution (2560x1440).By now best result are witn inspector compared to xplane settings. No HDR at all (really I think it doesn't worth loosing 40% fps) and cloud at 10%.All the rest almost maxed out.Last GPU driver installed. What you think about ?My sensation CPU is the bottleneck. Hueyman Posted July 27, 2013 Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 Hi guys I just finished today the building, will post picts and clear analysis when I find time maybe this week end but overall, that setup runs EVERYTHING Maxed out in hiugh 70's ( the minimum ) or even insolent 150+FPS... it runs latest DCS World 1.2.5 full details and AA 80 FPS, Far Cry III same, ArmA III same... but not X-Plane ! ;-( ;-( ;-( With all maxed out, 150% clouds, all AA, HDR Atmospheric Scattering and Global Shadows ( anyway, all the options pushed up ), I got high 15 FPS, which is enormous compared of the workload it has to do ... but really, I was expecting to run it as the other games... I truly think X-Plane isn't optimised, it's not the most beautiful software I've seen ( yet it's truly impressive ), so I don't see why no PC on earth can run it at max, like all other apps ... Anyway, more details later !Hueyman Quote
BWolf7 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 It is well known that there is no computer in the world that can run X-Plane on max. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Go lower with your settings, James. Have you got the Wilmington scenery? It could serve as the benchmark location. Go with your plane only, and try to adjust different settings. Start low, and increase if possible. And have a look at this thread and my responses (here, here, and here) it might be helpful. Quote
Hueyman Posted July 27, 2013 Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 It is well known that there is no computer in the world that can run X-Plane on max. Yeah that's true ;-) Still I can run everything maxed out except global shadows and antialiasing full, with 40-50 FPS over a big city ( no clouds ) and 70 over countryside or see Those clouds really ruins everything ... What is strange is that some other sims ( DCS ... ) have much better looking and realistic clouds and are much more optimised ... hope REX Weather system prepare us some great things ;-) Quote

OlaHaldor Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 By now best result are witn inspector compared to xplane settings. What are your X-Plane settings and what are your GeForce Inspector settings set to?Would like to test it myself. Quote
iomagico Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 What are your X-Plane settings and what are your GeForce Inspector settings set to?Would like to test it myself. I'm linking both.Consider I'm testing right now the xplane option to limit fps to half of screen sync.My need to use inspector is because, after test it, find better results with it on my monitor screen resolution (2560x1440).Will be more than happy if someone will suggest better settings. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nycaw6axklom4mm/wCzTdkOZY_ Quote
Hueyman Posted July 27, 2013 Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 You were entirely true guys .. Starting back to 0 ugly settings and pushing them one by one ... Now I got solid 40 FPS with EVERYTHING on max, full HDR Atmospheric Scattering etc ... Just 75% clouds with cumulus and no AA Will post picts tomorrow, finally, pretty happy of the result. The key was, as you stated, not to stupidly put all to max without thinking about it... worst things are Shadows ( I run the option just before global, melt your GPU ) and AA Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 No AA? I get a 10-12 fps boost by switching it off, but it's messing with me, I gotta have some AA.. What resolution are you running at? I notice another 10fps boost if I switch to 1920x1080 vs 2560x1440 which is the native resolution. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote
Hueyman Posted July 28, 2013 Author Report Posted July 28, 2013 Yeah no AA ... plus I never been able from the past to use it, so now it looks kinda blurry to me... my native res for the VG278 is 1920X .... at 144Hz, I just let this res. Quote

Hueyman Posted July 28, 2013 Author Report Posted July 28, 2013 Really ? Wow ... AA just smooth pixel squariness ... HDR enhance glbal lightning on night, atmospheric effect and much more .. Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I use HDR and the second step of AA. Don't remember what it is right now, I'm on the phone. But it works well in 1920x1080. I mainly fly windowed really, in order to multitask, but keep control via the iPad with AirTrack. Could you share a screenshot of your render settings? Edited July 28, 2013 by OlaHaldor Quote

Jim Kallinen Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 Had chance to take a look on my inspector settings? It comes with the latest driver set for Geforce. My biggest bottleneck and loss of FPS is around any high density urban scenery. Go off in the wilds towards the mountain airports of Wyoming and myfps jumps up to around 120.Wish I had more time tp play with it. Could figure out what it is that hogs the resources. Quote
