Tom Knudsen Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I was wondering if there is a way to make an model in scetchup and then export it to be used in X-plane 10 with textures.I have managed to make a model, import it to x-plane but without textures. What kind of texture should one use? jpg, png, dds, bmpShould you use the plugin or just export it through Sctechup pro v8It seems what ever I do the textures applied in Scetchup will not follow into XP10?RegardsTom Quote
Sethesus Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Yes, you will need SK2XP here: http://marginal.org.uk/x-planescenery/tools.htmlX-Plane only reads PNG and DDS file formats. DDS is a compressed file format.XP also only reads a square texture file that's a power of two; 2048 is the max. And make sure you have one texture file; XP cannot read more than one texture per object.Watch this tutoriol for help: Quote
Simmo W Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 As the tute says, make sure you only apply one single png file for each object. A common frustrating issue is...make sure the PNG file name has no spaces in it! That can drive u mad. Your texture will appear in overlay editor or wed, but not in xplane. Quote
Tom Knudsen Posted April 14, 2012 Author Report Posted April 14, 2012 Thank you, will try this, any ideas or tips for a good konverter from png to dds? Quote
HenryT Posted April 14, 2012 Report Posted April 14, 2012 Aorta is great for converting PNG to DDS and vice versa:http://sourceforge.net/projects/aorta/ 1 Quote
Simmo W Posted April 18, 2012 Report Posted April 18, 2012 And u can get a good converter plugin for Photoshop elements, which isn't as expensive as the full ps, from nvidia. Quote
ilias.tselios Posted April 22, 2012 Report Posted April 22, 2012 Go here: http://scenery.x-plane.com/tools.php and download the Scenery tools. There is one called XGrinder. Perfect and simple converter for X-Plane! Quote
Tom Knudsen Posted May 22, 2012 Author Report Posted May 22, 2012 Follow up on this thread with a new question.Does any one know how to export so that windows remain transparent. Now the windows just gets grey model like Quote
Sethesus Posted May 22, 2012 Report Posted May 22, 2012 You need to make the texture transparent in an image editor. I don't think it works if you add transparency in SU. Quote
Tom Knudsen Posted May 23, 2012 Author Report Posted May 23, 2012 Ok, thanks, any guide on how to do that. Or is that just a plain texture with transparent shading Quote
Tom Knudsen Posted May 24, 2012 Author Report Posted May 24, 2012 Never mind, found a solution. Quote
