alpilotx Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) I have just made available the experimental X-Plane 10 HD Mesh Scenery (as freeware). It covers these regions (screenshots are in the gallery on my page - and posted here in previous threads): European Alps and Pyrenees (and all land in between) USA West (Rockies, Grand Canyon … you name it) Alaska Canada WestPLEASE: READ ALL THE INFORMATION ON THE DOWNLOAD PAGE BEFORE YOU START! There are quite some things to consider, before you start testing this scenery. I am in no way liable if you blow up your machine! Here is the direct link to the info/download page: http://www.alpilotx....d-scenery-mesh/(it also contains a little bonus - an experimental, dense forest replacement )Previous threads about this topic:http://forums.x-pilo...3072-alaska-hd/http://forums.x-pilo...-scenery-shots/ Edited March 13, 2012 by alpilotx 3 Quote
larjeet Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 The highlighted zips do not line up with the scenery area I thought I was downloading pacific northwest washington and I downloaded part of europe 1 Quote
larjeet Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) just awesome thanks . the mountains around Vancouver are just perfect. Edited March 15, 2012 by larjeet 1 Quote
alpilotx Posted March 15, 2012 Author Report Posted March 15, 2012 The highlighted zips do not line up with the scenery area I thought I was downloading pacific northwest washington and I downloaded part of europeStrange ... because if I try it just now, it seems to work (as I tried to do my best with linking to the file hoster - which was not trivial at first). But I can imagine, that the file hoster is "playing" around with their software, and maybe hoses it from time to time ... But obviously, you got what you wanted in the end Quote
bokepacha Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 I downloaded the European part to check Pirinees and north of Spain and looks quite cool. Will it be only avaiable for you or LR? Or will it be a downloable code to add more parts of the world? cause I'm interested in the Canary islands at high resolution As always, awesome work. Quote
alpilotx Posted March 15, 2012 Author Report Posted March 15, 2012 Hi Bokepacha,Have seen you comment on x-plane.es (even if I can't read spanish - could have asked my wife maybe). And well, its very improbable that anybody else can reproduce this in the next time, as I used our existing tool chain from the Global Scenery creation. For me, this meant, that it was quite easy to do, as I had everything set up, and "only" tuned the mesh parameters ... (but the preparation was essentially the 3 years I worked on the Global Scenery ).But now that you say ... Canary islands might really be a nice addition. I will consider to add them at some time (I just don't want to promise anything). Quote
karingka Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 The dense trees look great! Thanks! Quote
bokepacha Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) Well, good and bad news (good in balance xD)Thanks a lot for the answer Andras (I always think Fabian is your name and Andras a surname... )A way to add some more mesh (even being complex one, many people works with DSFs in a raw mode by using a notepad) could add some more creativity to this world. Even if you want to create a new scenery just working on a single area close to the airport (meaning more accurate runway following terrain, or hills and cliffs close to the airport like in GCGM or GCXO) would be awesome. I have to give a try with your new forest. I use 8Gb ddr2000 so this has to be awesome!Alejandro Edited March 15, 2012 by bokepacha Quote
eaglewing7 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 From the pictures this looks amazing, of course not having XP-10 yet I can't test it out. What are the odds that this might work in Version 9? Or have the file systems changed dramatically since the new version came out? Quote
alpilotx Posted March 15, 2012 Author Report Posted March 15, 2012 This will definitely NOT work in XP9! The HD Mesh is identical to the XP10 Global Scenery when it comes to artwork use (textures etc.) ... and most of it (and many new technology) is/was not available in XP9. Quote
alpilotx Posted March 15, 2012 Author Report Posted March 15, 2012 Alejandro, I think I might do the Canary islands at some point in the future (as I like them in X-Plane too ... never was there in real life though) ... we will see ... Quote
bokepacha Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) OK. Enough hope for me . I was studying and living there for 9 years (tenerife) so I know them very well. All my scenery creations are always thinking in the canary islands and how to make them look more real. One shot of your HD scenery in LEBBLEBB scenery + OSM cities+OSM roads + forests (all in INSANE option)http://img.photobuck.../LEBBpanoHD.jpg Edited March 15, 2012 by bokepacha Quote
larjeet Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Is it posible to package the dense forest textures in a file to use in addon scenery folder instead of having to overwright textures . Quote
alpilotx Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 Yes, that would be possible ... but I did not want to go in great hassle with the forests, as I really only see them as an experimental(!) replacement. We are intending to overhaul the default (in XP10 that is) forest definitions anyways over the coming months (don't ask for a time line!) which will hopefully obsolete this little "extra" pack. Quote
alpilotx Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 (edited) One shot of your HD scenery in LEBBLEBB scenery + OSM cities+OSM roads + forests (all in INSANE option)Yes, a beautiful region (was there during my test quite often) ... And if we are already talking about Spain: what works very well too with HD Scenery, the "Picos de Europa" (http://en.wikipedia....Picos_de_Europa) . And no, even there I haven't been in real life (but at least in the Spanish Pyrenees last year: see photographs here ) Edited March 16, 2012 by alpilotx Quote
bokepacha Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 I visited the picos the europa with your scenery but I have never been in the area in RL and can't compare. Our photoscenery has its own mesh and it's not compatible with your HD scenery . We should start a new photoscenery project with no mesh...I'll try to find some remarkable mountains in the picos de europa (like the "naranjo de bulmes") http://personales.gestion.unican.es/garciaj/c_bonita.htmThat will be a good test for your scenery. xD Quote
alpilotx Posted March 16, 2012 Author Report Posted March 16, 2012 The good fairy has listened to Alejandros wish ... so we have now a HD Mesh Canary Islands (Ultra HD that is, with even higher mesh resolution - which really only works on islands, as they don't have much land mass to contribute to the filesize ). You can't miss it at the bottom of the download page:http://www.alpilotx.net/downloads/x-plane-10-hd-scenery-mesh/ Quote
bokepacha Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 (edited) After a few years of photorealistic canary islands scenery, you're always worried about removing it and checking a new non-photoreal scenery, but I have to say this is a real pleasure to fly in these islands!I seee EVERY detail I can remember, every place I've flown in, every cliff I've been flying in the "aeroclub" pa28. The big step at the very beginning of rwy 30 in GCXO, los gigantes cliffs in the south, the teide-pico viejo volcano system (first time in my life I see it in a flight sim!!).You can start with a rwy 30 app to GCXO. I suggest to use OSM cities. You can use my spanish cities scenery updated a few days ago. The work in GCXO is mine. Took a few time and looks quite better now.Spanish OSM citieshttp://www.x-plane.es/xp_resources/indexlist/index.php?dir=&file=xspain_cities_marzo_2012.7z&AutoIndex2=6a4ff1ea1ffb937cd86da0aba259ebfcSpanish OSM roadshttp://www.x-plane.es/xp_resources/indexlist/index.php?dir=&file=Xspainroads_Marzo_2012.7z&AutoIndex2=6a4ff1ea1ffb937cd86da0aba259ebfcHow about La palma, la isla bonita? Perfectly accurate slope when you land from rwy 01. All those cliffs in the north of the island or the caldera itself at dawn...stunning. How about some of the biggest cliffs in europe? There they are, in the north of the island.North of La PalmaPath to the calderaNorth of La Palmahttp://img.photobuck...ne/la_palma.jpgSouth of La palmaEl hierro (GCHI) and La gomera (GCGM)? Now they start and end as they should, directly to the deep! Long life to cliffs!. Coasts are now real coasts.El Hierro west coasthttp://img.photobuck...ierro_coast.jpg Edited March 17, 2012 by bokepacha Quote
bokepacha Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 (PART II)Cliffs at the start of the runway in La gomera GCGMLas palmas (GCLP)...there we have the "little teide" mountainOr Maspalomas (El Berriel needs some works xD)Or the beautiful west coast, full of mountains.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/bokepacha/x-plane/gran_canaria.jpgFuerteventura and Lanzarote (GCFV and GCRR) are close to flat but even so, they have some nice places to go.Fuerteventurahttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/bokepacha/x-plane/fuerteventura.jpgNorth of Lanzarote has a good companion, La Graciosa island and 2 small rocks (can't remember the name). All of them, are in the sim perfectly situated. On a negative note, I find quite innacurate the landclass in half of the islands. The ones of the east are ok (Hierro, La Palma, La gomera) as they are the greenish ones but fuerteventura and lanzarote are deserts in RL, but not in the sim. Also Gran canaris is quite green in the sim but not so much in RL. South of thenerife and the teide area are deserts in RL, but the teide desert is like a small forest in the sim.How it was supposed to look like:Sir, you have my grattitude as this will make me fly for years! flightime56 Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 I can't see the difference between the Default and the Hi Res versions?First my Custom Scenery folder settings...Now the default original scenery. And the Hi Res version? This is EI hierro (GCHI) am i in the wrong place? Quote
bokepacha Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 More accurate edges in the second one but maybe not a good example . Check the coasts, not flat floors to the water now. The surroundings of the airport are a good example. Quote
alpilotx Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 Alejandro, your screenshots are great! thanks for doing them. And about the landclass ... well, its not so much the landclass I think (as it is from the very good source of the European Environment Agency ... the CORINE data). Its much more, the question what kind of textures are currently assigned to those triangles. And they are definitely not perfect. Our texture artist Albert already noticed this, and told me few days ago, that next he will start working a bit more on the south (because he finds it too green too). And all his updates to textures - which you get trough XP10 updates - will also benefit the HD Mesh (it uses the same artwork). So, be patient a little bit (but never ask for time frame) ... I think, the texturing will improve in this region too Quote
alpilotx Posted March 17, 2012 Author Report Posted March 17, 2012 I can't see the difference between the Default and the Hi Res versions?Well, if the mountains slopes, edges are "soft", then there won't be so big differences. But not only the elevation structure changes with HD mesh, but also the landclass assignments. And as bokepacha told you ... it doesn't do magic in all places Quote
larjeet Posted March 17, 2012 Report Posted March 17, 2012 Double check and make sure you downloaded ther right mesh I have found that you must scroll with the arrows to find the coresponding zip . Quote
