Setting up X-Plane

I am new to X-Plane and am looking for a little help setting up.  Everything is working fine, but how do I load airport stand positions and start a new flight somewhere other than on the runway?  Apologies for the basic question.

In the airport selection section of the flight configuration, there's a way to go to more detail (I forget what it's labelled as), and in that window it shows a large map of the airport, you can zoom in on the map and pick a gate. Or use the list on the lower left to select one by name. You may have to toggle from showing runways to showing ramp starts.
