Error I caused using map to reposition, HDG showing in red

I caused this error by using the map (m key) to reposition the plane.  Once this error hits, the Heading button is in-op, no green LEDs light with a button push.  

I'm curious what the red HDG indicator means and if there is a procedure to use to clear it (versus reloading the plane).

Is there a general instruction/rule to avoid using the map to reposition, or using plugins like FS Instant Approach?

Realign the IRUs from the menu.

Thank you!  That makes a lot of sense.  I checked the failure menus, but there was nothing there.
