11.55r2 - Crash to Desktop (with possible explanation)

Hello everyone,

I've been experiencing several seemingly random crashes. I think I've now figured out when/why it crashes: It seems to be an issue with icing. If you get into icing conditions, it crashes, as it fails to draw the ice (At least from experience and the log). That's why the crashes happened (for me) only happened in clouds and cold temperatures. (Flying in sunny California shouldn't be an issue ;))

My flight:

DEP: LYPG (METAR: LYPG 201000Z 01004KT 280V040 5000 -RA BR FEW010 BKN033 OVC070 11/11 Q1019 TEMPO 3000 )

Crash: At approximative: 7000-8000ft (OAT: -3°C)

My System:

X-Plane 11.55r2 (OpenGL)

macOS 12.2.1

It's not crashing with Metal, but in the graphics Menu it says "Rain not compatible with Metal". Also, I'couldn't see any ice, so it seems that it doesn't crash because it's not even trying to draw any. (I tried the same weather as yesterday and even worse icing conditions).

I'm sorry that it took me so long, but I had a lot to do in the past week.

I did install a clean copy of X-Plane and the TBM, it still crashed.

The most reliable way to make it crash X-Plane is to set the temperature to around -8°C and heavy precipitation.

Just to clarify.  With no plugins, and running in OpenGL in Windowed mode, you are still getting crashes.

Is this correct?  I can confirm I am not getting crashes using OpenGL in windowed mode.
