G5 frozen when in forward view with nothing

I have installed the latest g5 software.  I fly x-plane in forward with nothing view.  Control W.  I want to use the g5's in pop up mode but they are frozen until I go back to 3d view.  Are there any fixes for this?

In the g5.cfg file for the aircraft you are using, you can set g5_draw2d to 1.
