He who is not welcome!
Hi,I wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions or knowledge on this;I have applied various AA and AF settings in X-Plane itself, and in my nVidia Control Panel. I have currently settled on AA set at 8x and AF set at 8x (set to "enhance the application" in the nVidia Control Panel).Generally speaking the textures look good; certainly the aircrafts are as smooth as I'd expect and the scenery is not bad either. What is really letting my visual experience down, is jagged edges and what appears to be little or no AA/AF on the Runway textures in X-Plane.It's very hard to make out what I'm referring to on this picture, as the main problem is with shimmering (but only on the runway textures), which obvioulsy doesn't translate on a static image. Is this just a weak spot in X-Plane or do you think anything is wrong here? Is 'nHancer' recommended for X-Plane?I've tried two different nVidia drivers (with the same results); 260.99 and 182.5.Would I better off with different drivers? (These two were always best for MSFS).Many thanks in advance for any help!David.
FlorianR
This is an issue that X-Plane has had for a while, and there is nothing you can do about it other than maxing out your settings. In addition your computers screen might have a low pixel density.
He who is not welcome!
Thanks for the reply Florian.Ah, that's a shame. I have tried maxing out all the settings, and setting AA/AF to max but it doesn't improve the jaggies/shimmering of the runway in the distance. It's strange because it's the only object that is shimmering. I remember having bad shimmering in FS9 with an old ATI card, but everything shimmered in that case.... in this case the only object letting the visuals down is the runway (towards the end of the runway).I hope Austin can fix this in an update, or in XP10.Cheers, David
MdMax
Hi all ! Two questions for X-Plane texture experts: are the default runway textures dds textures ? Are they pre-mipmapped ?David, did you also try 3rd party runway textures ?http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=7591Happy flying ! He who is not welcome!
Hi Mdmax,I've just installed that runway texture but it replaces gravel runways only.... bizarrely, I looked at 30+ random airfields in X-Plane and just couldn't find any with the gravel! ..... literally dozens of grass, asphalt and concrete but yet to find any that use the gravel textures. Thanks,David

steven winslow
Lots of gravel runways in Alaska and Canada. Try CYDB. One of my favorites. I have some scenery for it if you want it.
