barvic Posted April 5, 2020 Report Posted April 5, 2020 Hi folks, just purchased new SkyMaxx Pro on my iMac Mojave, 8GB, Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB, and getting tiling... I did post in SkyMaxx, accidentally figured better to post here. Cheers, Bruce CYYJ Quote
sundog Posted April 6, 2020 Report Posted April 6, 2020 We've seen this occasionally in the past, and it does seem specific to the system and video card you happen to have. We've found some anecodotal evidence online of this being a subtle hardware failure of the card itself. I think it's more of a driver issue, but Apple doesn't allow you to mess with your drivers really to try and fix it. My advice would be to try different graphics quality settings in X-Plane to see if that clears it up. It may be specific to HDR usage. Quote
barvic Posted April 6, 2020 Author Report Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) Thanks Frank, I checked an my XP11 graphics setup is sitting at Med for visual Effects: non-HDR I will play with this further. Cheers, bruce I did de-install Sky-Maxx pro so will install it again. Edited April 6, 2020 by barvic Quote
barvic Posted April 6, 2020 Author Report Posted April 6, 2020 So update, moving into HDR fixes the problem for me, however, I drop below 25FPS. Also, looking outside the AC, this tiling is restricted in the top third of the view (screen). I only have 8GB RAM, and the SMP panel tells me that I have 990MB of video and 205MB of System RAM free. Does anyone have any graphics settings I should eb using on my iMac 27" 2019: Model Name: iMac Model Identifier: iMac19,1 Processor Name: Intel Core i5 Processor Speed: 3.7 GHz Number of Processors: 1 Total Number of Cores: 6 L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB L3 Cache: 9 MB Memory: 8 GB Graphics Chipset Model: Radeon Pro 580X Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 8 GB I appreciate this. sundog Posted April 7, 2020 Report Posted April 7, 2020 I don't have a similar system, but my advice would be to keep HDR on, but turn down any other graphics settings (such as AA) you can. Setting the cloud draw distance in SkyMaxx Pro as low as you can tolerate will also help performance. Quote
barvic Posted April 7, 2020 Author Report Posted April 7, 2020 Thanks Frank, so perhaps the use of SMP is counterintuitive to the experience? I read that the engine for SMP relieves the efforts of XP so, perhaps wrongly, assumed that there would not be a frame-rate hit so hard. Truly, what can one expect these days with XP11 frame rate for an 8GB card? Cheers, bruce CYYJ Quote
