awf757 Posted June 8, 2016 Report Posted June 8, 2016 First of all great work gentlemen have Skymax Pro 3.2 and RWC and NOAA plugin crunching together fine. One question those CB are impressive but look most of the time a bit out of place with no cloud base around it, and the hovering on the ground is strange to me living in the Netherlands... Never seen that in real life from the ground or up in the air for that matter. Are there plans to tune this a bit more? Thank you for your kind support in advance, Cheers, André Quote
sundog Posted June 8, 2016 Report Posted June 8, 2016 I agree the main thing that makes CB look odd is when there is not a bunch of cumulus congestus clouds surrounding them, as there would be in real life. We are just doing what the METAR data tells us, though. It's strangely common to see "FEW" cumulus clouds reported along with a "CB" modifier - and if we take that literally, it does end up looking a little odd. I am considering forcing SCT when CB is seen. It's not true to the METAR data, but would look more natural. Open to thoughts on this. As for why the CB clouds extend to the ground - the idea is to capture the reduced visibility from the rain shaft underneath the cloud which does reach the ground. We've experimented with other approaches for representing virga, but have had trouble getting it to look good up close or when you're directly underneath the CB cloud. We've since cracked the code on forcing our own visibility conditions on X-Plane within localized areas though, so that is something I hope to improve upon in future updates. 2 Quote
awf757 Posted June 8, 2016 Author Report Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Appreciated the fast answer and insight about the process. I prefer a more naturally looking environment as you suggested, as opposite of an exactly representation of the correct metar in those odd cases which the WX in the sim is looking odd due to metar or sim restrictions.
