Spokane, WA - KGEG v2.5

3 Screenshots

About This File

Spokane, Washington State USA

KGEG, Spokane International Airport, under construction.

This airport has had several changes over the last two years and is in the process of taxiway reconfiguration, building a new ARFF facility, and several other projects. I am almost complete, but wanted some feedback. Version 3 will contain custom objects.

I have the airfield side configured as it will look at the end of next summer when the taxiways are reconfigured. Right now I am using only the default objects. I have placed some airfield side ramp equipment. All the buildings, lighting and lights are placed as close as possible to real with default objects.

I have excluded most of the default roads (wrong locations) at the airport due to new construction. I have placed new polygons where the roads and drives actually are.

I added photo scenery and several more buildings surrounding the airport.

Please see the attached txt file for some changes that need to be made to the earth_nav.dat file, otherwise the glide slope antenna for rwy 3, and localizer antenna for rwy 21 and the IM of rwy 3 will be in the wrong locations, two of them right in the middle of the runway.

I have placed some fun stuff.

I will have a few changes and additions to make but I didn't notice until I had everything zipped up.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Chris

Very well done!

Thanks Mario, for the kind words.

Looks amazing, mind if I ask how you imported photos to the scenery.  I create quite a few but dont know how to add photo ground textures.

Thanks Bruuner.

I started with USGS high resolution photos from 2012.  With the government slowdown the USGS website is closed for now.   I use LizardTech's GeoViewer for processing the images from JP2 to TIFF to PNG and for resizing the images down to 2048 x 2048 or smaller, I also use XGrinder to convert the images to dds.  I use WED to place the TIFF and create the draped polygons.  I also use Photoshop to adjust the gamma if necessary, remove shadows, and feather the edges out so there isn't such and abrubt edge where the photo scenery ends (I use Photoshop with the PNG files before I convert them to 2048 or smaller.  Chris K has a very good posting for creating photo ground textures over in the xplane.org forums.

Good work! Looks like I have competition for my style ;) Very well done, quite impressed :)

Thanks Colin,

How are your fps? Just wondering because i have plans to upgrade the entire scenery with custom buildings, where I am using default objects now. I also want to add more tiles of photo scenery to the north west and south but I don't want to if other users are already getting low fps.

any eta on v3?

v3 will not be anytime soon, I only get to work on this project 2 or 3 evenings a week at most.  It will take some time creating all the custom buildings, and objects around this airport.

How are your fps?

I will be posting updated files next weekend that have a few little corrections, a couple of taxi signs are wrong or missing.  I am also going to post a modified Airport Diagram (PDF) with the new taxiway layout and designations.

I no longer have V9 installed on my systems.   If someone would like to modify this airport so that it works in V9, just ask.

An FPS count? My computer can barely load X-Plane alone. I managed to load it and see that it's beautiful. Sorry about that :P All I can say is keep up the good work.

Hi Chris

Very nice scenery, another for the state of Washington, fits in nicely with my efforts and those of others.

Frame rates are very good for me, although I run non-HDR.
