  1. Flying south over the high desert of northeastern California. Mt. Shasta is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) in the distance on this beautiful clear morning flight.
  2. Flying north over the small town of Gasquet, in far northern California, just south of the Oregon border. Ward Field, 0O9, a small public airport, is visible next to the town and adjacent to the north fork of the Smith River. The valley is surrounded by the Siskiyou Mountains and the Six Rivers National Forest. Gasquet is located about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of the coastal community of Crescent City. Preston Peak is the largest peak on the horizon, looking east.
  3. Approaching the city of Grass Valley from the east, with the Nevada County Airpark, KGOO, in the foreground.
  4. Overflying the privately owned Hell'er High Water airstrip (45CL), located east of the small town of Zenia, California.
  5. Directly overhead the city of Susanville in northeastern California, flying southeast.
  6. Flying east over the town of Selma, about 15 miles southeast of the city of Fresno, in the heart of California's San Joaquin Valley.
  7. Overflying Nevada County Airpark, KGOO, flying west.
  8. Flying northeast over the Diablo Range southeast of the city of Livermore.
  9. Flying southeast of the small town of Anderson, between the cities of Redding and Red Bluff. The Sacramento River is at the top of the image. The Shasta County Highway A17 bridge across the Sacramento River is at the top-left of the image. A beautiful area in which to fly!
  10. Flying over an intersting drainage and plateau landscape northeast of the city of Redding.
  11. Flying south from the shores of Mono Lake. Located in California's spectacular Eastern Sierra, Mono Lake is an oasis in the dry Great Basin and a vital habitat for millions of migratory birds. Mono Lake is located in a drainage basin that has no outlet to the ocean, which causes high levels of salts to accumulate, making the lake water alkaline.
  12. Flying southeast over Eagle Lake, northwest of the city of Susanville, with the morning sun reflecting off the lake. Spaulding Airport, 1Q2, is on the western shore of the lake, directly under the right wing of the Cessna.
  13. Northwest flight as the late afternoon sun shines where the Diablo Range meets the great agricultural lands of the San Joaquin Valley. The town of Patterson is in the distance on the right side of the image. The Diablo Grande golf club is on the left.
  14. No other city in California, or perhaps all of the USA, is associated with agriculture more than Fresno, in the heart of California's San Joaquin Valley. This flight is overflying Fresno, heading northeast. Fresno-Chandler Executive Airport, KFCH, is shown in the lower right of the image. Highway 99, the Golden State Freeway, is seen to the left side of the image. Highway 180, the Sequoia-Kings Canyon Freeway, is the main route heading east, through the city.
  15. Flying south over the high desert town of Newell in far northeastern California, just south of the Oregon boarder. The Tulelake Municipal Airport, O81, is below the right wing. In the distance is Lava Beds National Monmument, with the mountains of the Klamath National Forest to the right side of the image.
  16. Flying west over Lake Almanor. Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park is in the distance to the west. Mt. Lassen rises 10,463 feet (3,189 meters) and is the southern-most active volcano in the Cascades Mountain Range which extends from Canada south into northern California. Rogers Field (O05) is visible on the shore of Lake Almanor, under the Cessna's left wing.

  19. Flying north over Ruth Reservoir, which provides domestic water to the cities of Arcata and Eureka and many smaller communities on California's northern coast. The R. W. Matthews Dam is visible on the left.
  20. Flying over the cities of Lincoln and Sun City, north of Sacramento, looking east.
  21. The small town of Los Banos, flying south, with the municipal airport to the left.
  22. Flying south over the city of Turlock in the heart of California's agricultural region. The town of Delphi is in the distance in the upper right of the image.
  23. A double-shot of Mt. Shasta! Here's a second image taken just north of the yesterday's screenshot. Lake Siskiyou is on the right, with Black Butte on the left.
  24. Flying north over Castle Crags, part of the Trinity Mountains. Mt. Shasta, at over 14,000 feet (4,300 meters) dominates the landscape in the distance. The small hill to the left of Mt. Shasta is Black Butte. The small city of Mt. Shasta is just above the Cessna's right wing.
  25. The beautiful Siskiyou Mountains in northwest California. Below is the small town of Happy Camp, and the Happy Camp airport, 36S.
