Let me try and sum this up for you.
Per pixel lighting, and vertex lighting, are the two ways to light a 3d object. That is being very basic of course, but for this explanation that will do.
When you have per-pixel lighting turned on, each pixel on your screen, is being sampled for lighting. This means the rendering engine has to draw a ray or line from the camera to the pixel then to the light and figure out the angle of the polygon to the light, and then return a value which gives you your shading. Today most computers have no problem rendering per pixel lighting what soever, but back 10 years ago, that wasn't so.
Back then the standard was vertex lighting which only samples light from the vertexes, or points that make of the polygon mesh inside the 3d space. the lighting sampled is then shaded over the polygons like a gradient. Vertex lighting is very fast for this reason but offten it wont look as good, infact most of the time it will look rather horible unless the mesh you are looking at has a large number of vertexes in it.
Take a look at this wiki page to see a visual exsample of what vertex lighting looks like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gouraud_shading
hope that helped.

lol guys, to funny.
i wonder what the conversation was in the cockpit about this bug.
-
thanks guys
how goes the ATR atg?

Getting ever closer to the end now.
If everything runs like it should, we should have her out in a few months, sooner if someone sends me candy? hehe. no jk.
AS you can see we have the basic texture shading in place with some color. still have to add in a few details and some weathering of sorts till she really looks great.
what do you think?

B-17 is small compared to moder fighter jets.
The SU30 is impressive. the video was just awesome to watch. i want one.

oh, and a quick search for a t rex model on google i found this.
http://www.3dvia.com/models/A260C598AABC8EA0/
so, who is the guy who made this for x-plane, cause if it is not Issac Miller, then there may be a copyright issue there.
I hate when i sniff out possible model steallage!

everyone go and thumb down the youtube video.
This is rather disturbing.

Looks like i was having duplicative pages displaying on my site which has screwed up the disqus commenting system. Dozer, your comments are still there, but not on the right page. If you go to the page you commented on and take the &itemid=# part off it, you will get to the "lost" page that you commented on.
I had to change all my links to the site as well to fix this. the lost pages can still be found though, i just hope all the links on the site link to the correct page now and not this other page.
Figuring this all out was the bane of my existence the past few days. Also makes this all a lot of fun, i guess.

Just found out i can migrate the links for Disqus so all the comments are in the right place. The powers above like me today.

I just updated the list to make it much easier to read.
Actually I think it's now 100 times easier to read then before.
Hope that helps.
One day i would like to have it database driven with sortable columns. For now this will have to do.

I always valued AVSIMS reviews back when i flew in FSX. Having a well thought out review for a payware plane is a joy to have all together. I rather have someones opinion then none at all if i am going to spend money.
And for circuit breakers in the real world all i have to do is make sure they are all pushed in before we start the 172 up. I believe they are really used by the aircraft mechanics to test systems and take things offline like you would do in your house if you had to work on a part of the electrical system.
And talking about the Falco makes me wanna go fly her around. Maybe i will even review it come january. I remember flying the Falco online once and i must have done this high G Kick that kills the landing gear cause i came in to land and it wasn't down. Came in skidding to a halt right in front of all my buddies. Good times.

Thanks, we greatly appreciate it.

Thanks guys for this thread. it has brightened my day.

Have a great Holiday to you all!

Np Dozer.
I also did some major house cleaning on the site, trying to get it optimized to load faster as i was VERY unhappy with the load speeds previous. I will say i actually learned a lot in the process and am mostly happy with the results.
Our website will now load up quite a bit faster then it had in the past. I will continue to optimize it wherever i can.

Thank you Dozer for your feedback.
Having a commenting system that works for everyone and that is easy to use is a goal for us. It is unfortunate that such a system was not in place from the get go.
Our first system took too long to load and did not work correctly plus it was not user friendly.
I was hoping by replacing it with the Facebook integrated commenting system it would be open to more people and be a bit more familiar. Unfortunately, the Facebook commenting system was not working for everyone, in fact it barely worked at all.
I have sent a few hours today getting a new system up and running. It is called Disqus and is a very popular commenting system used by many of the larger companies out on the web. Disqus has a lot of features as well as being easy to use and open to everyone. Check it out.
We really enjoy hearing feedback from the community and this is why i have put so much effort into a prop commenting system. I hope that Disqus will be the system we use from here on out.
To post without signing in, all you have to do is write you comment, and click the post as button. Then click on Guest and there yeah go. Very simple.

wow that looks really good, how did you guys do that?
-
I have a favor to ask.
I seem to have just found out the commenting system on our site may not be working for everyone. I would ask for your feedback. are you able to post on any of the pages using the commenting system available. Please try commenting on something and see. if not let me know so i can fix this system.
Thanks.

WOW, i am going to have to get that game.
You are right it is stunning what they are doing now in motion capture. It is really cool that they are going this far to make a game seem more believable then ever before.
-
Hehe, still nice to look at though, Goran.

Thanks guys.
I just wanted to add here that we have accelerated development of the Q400 over what we had previously been doing. This just means we may have her completed sooner rather the later.
In a few weeks I should be posting up images of the finished 3D cockpit.
-
WOW!
Just finished watching this. What a great way to start off my Sunday morning.
Thanks for posting the vid.

Tonight was great on Pilotedge, did some formation flying with like 5 other guys. lots of fun.

Working on specular shading at the moment.
Its correct the landing gear needs to be done, exterior night lighting, finish up the MFD and then testing testing testing. Also have a few more things to work on for the cockpit textures. Things i am not happy with, etc. Oh, and liveries.
