    You can use Osmconvert - download it from here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Osmconvert If you're on Windows, the conversion is as easy as putting the downloaded Osmconvert and the .osm file in the same folder, and when you start Osmconvert it will ask if you want a short, step-by-step guide to help you with the conversion.
