Harley Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) I have a Long EZ (a real one, not a sim!) at the Canandaigua Airport, and after seeing that the X-Plane version of Canandagua not only had the taxiways on the wrong side, AND still uses the old 3200 foot runway, and having done a couple of highly rated golf courses for the Links Golf simulation, I decided to try my hand at a more accurate version of D38 for X-Plane. I was going to do photo accurate hangars and buildings (including the new Ontario County Sheriff's building on the airport) and have taken photographs of all sides of them so I can use Sketchup to create the buildings and later convert them for X-Plane use. But after spending the time improving the runway, taxiways and roads, I ran out of patience and just used the default buildings and objects in WED. At any rate, the runway, taxiways, lights, tarmac, many objects and the building locations are accurate, so I decided it was time to freeze the design for now and upload it. A major problem is that the new, real life 5500 foot runway extends beyond Thomas Road, the real road was terminated on both sides of the runway and turn arounds built into it. I didn't do anything with the roads in the X-Plane version, so if you select anything higher than "default" for the roads in Rendering Settings, Thomas road will cross the runway...as do the cars that X-Plane puts on it! The driveway that goes to the airport is also treated as a road, and it goes through the beacon and main hangar. So, if you use this airport, set the roads to default or less and those roads will look fine. I did see the screenshots from the version that 79Carboy uploaded, and although his detail is more complete than mine, I see that he is also using the old runway and stock hangars and buidings as I did. So, if there is any interest, I'll share the new 5500 foot runway version for all to ponder and criticize! Maybe someday I'll get around to tweaking it. Meanwhile, at least it looks accurate from 500 feet up! The attached image shows my X-Plane version of my Long EZ flying passed the new D38... Harley DixonLong EZ N28EZ (Real one!)
