X-Plane Version(s): X-Plane 9 & 10

I had a day off today, so I decided to mess a bit with the poorly detailed moon that sits quietly in our virtual skies. So I give you MOON, my first HD Enhancement Pack.

This package makes use of high definition textures that have been carefully processed to ensure a pleasant and beautiful experience, and will bring life, depth and detail in the simulator.
Videomakers may get creative with this powerful and compelling storytelling element. This addon has been designed with you in mind.

Includes XP9 and XP10 textures : 1k, 2k and 4k DDS.
Please see the included Read Me for more info.

Hi,

thanks for the add-on.

I tried it today, using XP10.21 and the 4K DDS

What I noticed is that there is no visual difference when I look at the moon from my cockpit. The difference is noticed greatly when I zoom my view on the moon, then I see the enormous details of the texture.

I guess that's how X-Plane works, :(

Please find attached screenshots. The first one is without any zoom, the second and third ones are zoomed.

I also attach my rendering settings for info

Hi Ayarov,

You're absolutely right, the enhancement only shows with very high zooms.

The idea behind this was to enable the guys out there making videos to use a highly detailed moon if they wanted to. I strongly felt it was a shame the moon wasn't at least a tad better ; I bet the texture Laminar uses hasn't been updated since XP version 8. I also asked Laminar for normal maps support, but they weren't so enthusiastic, even though they would make a big difference in close up shots. Let's just say I included them to make this tweak "future proof" just in case they change their mind ;)

Cheers,

Pierre.
