alpilotx Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) Today I have something new for X-Plane 10. A scenery, which tries to improve the look of the less “populated” areas of the default (or HD Mesh) Global Scenery, namely the agricultural areas, grasslands and pastures (the place, which can be wast and empty … especially in regions like the US Mid West etc.).This new scenery will add random tree lines along many-many roads and some – hopefully – well placed farms in the landscape (at least in the continental USA and Europe). After the download, you might be quite surprised by how some regions of the Global Scenery look (as a starter, try some random location in the US Mid West). To learn more and download this freeware (while considering a donation), follow this link:http://www.alpilotx....ines-and-farms/If you want to go to the screenshots first:https://picasaweb.go...eeLinesAndFarmsOr see some before / after comparisons (use the slide show in picasa, then you will see the difference quite "easily")https://picasaweb.go...ISONAfterBefore Edited July 15, 2012 by alpilotx 2 Quote
larjeet Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 Is this for just USA or does it include all of North America ? Quote
alpilotx Posted July 15, 2012 Author Report Posted July 15, 2012 (edited) Just the continental USA (without Alaska - ok, that wouldn't make much sense anyways) for now ... (maybe, just maybe, I might add Canada at some point in the future). Edited July 15, 2012 by alpilotx Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 Fantastic. Does the Europe pack include Norway? Looking forward to checking it out after work. Quote
alpilotx Posted July 16, 2012 Author Report Posted July 16, 2012 Yes, Norway should be covered (well its essentially what is covered by the http://download.geofabrik.de/ OSM download for Europe) ... Though, remember that all of this only works well, where:the landuse is agricultural, grassland, pasture or sparseOSM has some roads there! So, I don't know exactly how many nice regions this generated for Norway Quote
OlaHaldor Posted July 16, 2012 Report Posted July 16, 2012 I grew up on a farm, so I know exactly where I'll be flying first. Will check it when I get back from work. Working late tonight. Quote
alpilotx Posted July 16, 2012 Author Report Posted July 16, 2012 BUT - very important - do NOT expect farms where they would be in real life. I have NO data about the real location of farms - neither of tree lines. All this is procedurally generated scenery, which tries to place these assets in - halfway - plausible locations. This might work quite well in some cases, and quite badly in others ... but definitely never replicate reality! Quote
FloB Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) I know it's a little off topic but maybe Andras can answer the question nonetheless. Would it be possible to raise the mesh "resolution" for airports based on the data available or is there any other way to smoothen the runways if "follow contur" is checked? This is a great feature but...unfortunately it often makes my plane bounce like a superball so I have it unchecked most of the time ThanksFlo Edited July 22, 2012 by FloB Quote
alpilotx Posted July 25, 2012 Author Report Posted July 25, 2012 Update:25th July, 2012 – In both packages (Europe and USA) I have updated the draped ground textures (thanks to Albert, my long time friend and great texture artist of the XP10 Global Scenery) which now have colors better matching the Global Scenery textures. If your downloaded ZIP file has a little “_2″ postfix, then its already the new version. So, its not a big thing (no tree lines, or farm objects have changed), but just in case ... Quote
larjeet Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Just how far north does this extend I tried it around the Bellingham area thought it would ad a little interest when flying just below the Canada US border in washington state but i dont see anything different? Quote
alpilotx Posted July 27, 2012 Author Report Posted July 27, 2012 Hard to tell ... I would need to check how the areas for the Gefabrik OSM Exports are defined. Essentially its based on all you can see here (expect the big Canada chunk - which I might consider adding in the future).http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/north-america/ Quote
