philipwyatt Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Hello all,I wanted to share some experiences with X-plane 10 Scenery so far in terms of transferring my existing V9 Custom scenery over. I do this because I am sure that my attention to detail and organization has given me one of the most comprehensive scenery libraries in Version 9 history, and now it appears that I am unable to use it in Version 10.When I installed XP10 I thought that I would just drag and drop all my existing scenery over to the the new sim.....BIG mistake.....my log.txt file was stacked full of errors from normals of the wrong length.... errors in glyphs...... to missing controller frequencies(new to me!) and I was x-mapping out of memory...getting unexpected and unannounced crashes to desktop and all sorts of issues. A bit tedious as reloading the new sim takes a long time (5-8 mins)After playing around with trying to remove the airports that were giving errors in the log.txt file and then changing location in the sim I was horrified to see a whole new list of airports with errors in changing location and therefore loading the new airports in was unveiling new errors each time. I know that when i run the same custom scenery folder in version 9 I get a clean log.txt file except for one airport (LFPG) which is simply too good to remove so I put up with the errors. In a nutshell I have given up and removed all but a few airports from the new sim (some converted ones KLAX etc), hoping that although there are still errors, that there are few enough to at least get a flight together without a crash or too much memory leaking and x-mapping out of memory.I write purely to advise those who like me wanted to take the 35 gig of custom scenery i had in XP9 and run it all in XP10 to not do it, not yet anyway......there is something in XP10 that is not liking ALOT in my XP9 stuff and I guess I will now need to start waiting for updates in scenery from 9 to 10 before I start populating.......I know the questions and comments might start like....."did you make sure to put your object libraries in, update open scenryx etc and the answer is yet to all of that......I am hoping that someone might be able to get a comment in here to let me know if there is a batch converter or something to bring my V9 scenery up to date but for now I am heading back into flat airport territory untill I am able to figure this outSO please if you have a different experience in porting you V9 scenery across to V10 then please let me know, I spent the last 4 years collecting over 2000 or 34 gig of custom airports city scenery etc and hate the thought of having to start again....hope people find this helpful 2 Quote
Kaphias Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 I'll give my full library a try this afternoon, but the few I have tried already worked fine. Quote
Leen de Jager Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 I wonder these scenery-files have something to do with your crashes. You might be surprised to see the same log.txt in XP9 full of similair information.I ported my complete scenery from 9 XP9 to XP10 wihout any troubles.Ohh yes sometimes static models are not quiet as it should be on tiny details. When new scenery comes available we can always change to them. For now it suits me perfect.
