OK,

For some time I was aware of the FAA's downloadable approach charts (as most of you probably knew as well.) BUT, I decided to pay them a visit recently and found not only the approach plates (including SIDS and STARS), but the actual VFR sectionals and low and Hugh IFR Enroute charts. I know also that there is sky vector.com (a really great sight), but if you want the actual downloadable files that you can view without an Internet connection, then this is a gold mine.

In addition, they also provide the actual books for download (also free), of many publications that a flight instructor would tell a first time student to buy (but by no means limited only to the would-be beginner pilot.)

The link for the charts is here:  http://aeronav.faa.gov/index.asp?xml=aeronav/applications

The link for their publications is here: http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/

If this is all common knowledge, then please excuse my ignorance with this information. If anyway one person finds this useful however, then my work here is done!  ;D
