Hey guys,

I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but I was just wondering about this since the CRJ is my first experience with a more legit FMC system.  At least it's a lighter departure from the life or death questions about the CRJ!  So I almost always fly between KORD and KCMH or KORD and KEWR.  I've started using http://www.airnav.com/ to find the appropriate charts for where I'm flying.

Anyhow, my question is how do you know which STAR to use when flying to an airport??

Thanks!

yes.. it is ok publishing here. Not only bugs support!!!!

Ok.. when you have your flight plan maybe you will have something like:

KORD Point1 airway Point2 airway2 Point3 KCMH

the point before KCMH (Point3) is the STAR you have to choose. Usually there are 2 STARs (if any) per runway. One in each number in runway. But sometimes it can be 2 or 3 STARs on same number runway. You have to choose it on the map.. But they should be like this:

Point31

Point32

Point33

More or less. Points are usually (I believe) 5 letters. Airways 3-4 numbers and letters

Thanks for the super fast reply sir!  So in other words, the support forum isn't only to complain about bugs in the CRJ, that these questions are okay too?  Sweet.

So as an example, a flight plan I often use is:

KEWR DCT FJC J146 MIP J78 PSB J60 DJB STAR KORD

Then looking at the STARS available at KORD on airnav.com, this is what I find...

http://www.airnav.com/airport/KORD

That last waypoint is DJB or "DRYER", it took some digging but looks like KNOX FOUR is what I'd need, yeah?

Should be called Dryer(number).. don't know how is in USA, but here in Spain the name of the STAR is the last point name with a number..... mmmm

I open  Knox Four.. and yes.. I see Dryer on the right.... and the airport on the left???

so after breaking my neck a little following the arrivals, ........................

ahhhh.. I think I understand now your system....

First choose STAR: KNOX FOUR

Then your runway of arrival (what you want ILS)

then transition should appear, DRYER (OR DJB)

But if you don't find that way.. it maybe means that still you have to program on the FMS this:

After DJB - KULHY - SPANN - WATSN - KNOX

and then choose Knox four STAR

if someone that understand these maps can help, then perfect!!!! because I see clearly that can only fly in my country!!!  ;):D

DJB is one of a couple of transition points to the KNOX FOUR arrival into KORD. In flight plan format, it would be written as DJB.OXI4.
