amilotti Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 First off, thanks for this airplane. It makes everything else in xplane seem like a toy kite now. A quick question...I'm able to get decent frame rates on my machine around 28fps which allows for smooth flying and control, but the PFD MFD frame rates seem to be way slower. Any insight regarding measures we can take to fix this? Also a slight tangent from my topic, but I can only get decent frame rates on my laptop alone...once I connect to a 23" cinema display in clamshell mode, it struggles big time...is it that much more work for the computer to draw the extra pixels? Here are my system specs.... Japo32 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Mmm too low gpu vram i guess. Reduce quality of textures and press compress textures to save vram. Also close all loading programs in memory. Only run xplane and tell us what you got
philipp Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 256MB VRAM are definitely too low for using an external monitor. As for the display refresh rate, have a look here: http://forums.x-pilot.com/index.php?topic=2098.msg20802#new It is crucial that you have as little as possible programms running in the backgorund. Browser, Skype, PDF Viewer, they all steal CPU time from the display threads and especially with a second monitor, force graphics context switches that slow down the displays.Philipp
amilotti Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Ah, thanks for that guys...I'm not too keen on system requirements for gaming these days. So basically stick to the laptop monitor for good frame rates, huh? How much of a difference would 512MB of video RAM make? I'll try running without any other apps in the background...that's what I usually do but was using the web and PDF viewer for charts and so on...you got me.
amilotti Posted May 12, 2011 Author Report Posted May 12, 2011 I don't mean to be a pest, but I'm still having a hard time with frame rates on the PFD and MFD even though I only run the sim and nothing else in the background. This bird seems rather speed sensitive when landing, so to not have an accurate idea of my airspeed is making it difficult to land well. As I mentioned before, the frame rate displayed in the top left of my screen shows 30-40 so I'm confused. Is there anything further I can do to help the situation or perhaps something that can be done in a future patch release? I'll say this though, I checked out some youtube videos on the CRJ and man, you guys nailed it with the displays and FMC...I mean it seems to operate EXACTLY like the real thing...I guess that's why it strains my computer so badly.
Japo32 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Amilotti. I think we cannot do so much for you. I think you need to change your hardware settings. Maybe only the graphic card to one with 1mb vram the less, but poweful also. But i would suggest you change the cpu. The computer. Sorry. For now you could put your settings to lowest possible on xplane, and performance of displays in mfdu menu in fms to low. But i think still you should have problems
