john82088 Posted August 27, 2017 Report Posted August 27, 2017 I am looking at buying a new computer. I have been under the impression with flying xplane that the number of cores a computer has is not as important as the GHz of the computer for better xplane performance. If that is correct, is this the best computer for xplane Intel® Core™ Processor i7-7740X Quad-Core 4.3GHz 8MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2066 or this one Intel® Core™ Processor i7-7820X Eight-Core 3.6GHz 11MB Intel Smart Cache LGA2066 Thanks for any computer advice anyone can offer. Leen de Jager Posted August 27, 2017 Report Posted August 27, 2017 The Graphic card is the bottleneck , both processors will do nicely. Invest your money in the graphics. FSX depends on the CPU X-Plane depends for a huge part on the graphic card. Quote
john82088 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Report Posted August 28, 2017 Thank you for the advice. Much appreciated. Quote
Tom Stian Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 It depends on what settings you prefer in X-Plane. Some settings depends on CPU and other on GPU. Take a look at this video from Laminar Research. Quote
john82088 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Report Posted August 28, 2017 Thank you for the video. Unfortunately, they do not mention the number of cores. Less cores more GHz or more cores less GHz is what I am trying to determine before my purchase. Thanks though for your time! Quote
Tom Stian Posted August 28, 2017 Report Posted August 28, 2017 At the moment X-Plane is not very good at running on many cores. This may be changed in future. But hard to say when and if. So the best CPU will basically be the CPU with highest GHz pr core. I.e. a 32 core CPU with 3GHz will most likely performe worse then a 8 core CPU with 4.5GHz You can read more here from the x-plane developers. http://developer.x-plane.com/2016/11/some-notes-on-x-plane-11s-system-requirements/ 1 Quote
john82088 Posted August 28, 2017 Author Report Posted August 28, 2017 Thank you - that is a big help. I will go then lower cores and higher GHz. I appreciate it. Quote
